Sun Moon Lake Bicycle Path - Shuishe Section Introduction
This segment of the bike path extends from Shuishe Pier along the shores of Sun Moon Lake to Chaowu Pier, Zhushiyuan, and Wenwu Temple, covering a total length of approximately 3.5 kilometers. Some sections also offer views of Hanbi Peninsula and Shuishe Pier, making it a gentle route suitable for the public. The entrance to the Shuishe waterfront walkway is located to the left of Shuishe Pier and is an important pedestrian connection from Shuishe Pier to Jiulongkou. The entire path features wheelchair-accessible slopes, making it ideal for family outings. It is easy to walk along the wooden boardwalk beside the lake, leading directly from Chaowu Pier to Jiulongkou. The path is lush with trees, providing relief from the summer heat, and features rest spots where visitors can take a break or look out over the lake, enjoying the sight of boats passing through the waters; or the tranquil lake surface shimmering in sunlight, resembling a scattering of gold and silver into the water. On misty days, Xuanzang Temple on the Qinglong Mountain appears like an ancient temple in a traditional Chinese painting, evoking a sense of nostalgia; while the Ci'en Pagoda on the nearby Shabalan Mountain can be seen from various angles along the path, standing like a sword guarding Sun Moon Lake. Upon reaching Jiulongkou, there are artificial floating islands filled with wild ginger flowers on the lake, where one might occasionally spot a night heron hidden beneath the leaves, ready to hunt. If you still have the interest and stamina, you can continue to the Wenwu Temple's stone steps or ascend the stairs to reach the opposing Zhushiyuan, starting another segment of your journey. At night, looking from the pathway towards Shuishe Pier, the lights of hotels and restaurants twinkle, resembling colorful jewels that shine even more brilliantly against the dark backdrop.
