Dongli Family Residence - Century-old House Introduction
Yuanli Township was originally the habitat of the Dawu people (also known as the Pingpu people). Before the Qing Dynasty, there were four groups of Dawu people living in the area, namely "Fangli Tribe," "Yuanli Tribe," "Maoyu Tribe," and "Ribei Tribe." The terrain around Zhonggouwai (the western end of the Zhonggou area) is flat and spacious, and the "Zheng Family Settlement in Zhonggou" was built under the guidance of wise ancestors. The entire architectural layout of the "Zheng Family Settlement in Zhonggou" faces south, with the mountain at the back (north) and the stream in front (south); to the right is the "Zheng Family Old House," in the middle is the "Dongli Family Compound," and to the left is the "Zheng Residence" with traditional Japanese architecture, forming a spectacular large settlement. The "Dongli Family Compound," which has the appearance of a traditional Sanheyuan (a compound with three sections), is one of the few well-preserved red brick and glazed tile buildings with ceramic decorations in Taiwan. Under government guidance, its construction follows the fine and solid traditional Chinese architectural techniques, showcasing exquisite original architectural art; the century-old dragon cypress tree in front of the courtyard, along with the complete main body of the Sanheyuan connecting the left and right four auxiliary buildings, makes it the most distinctive accommodation area, attracting various television stations to often film there; it is also one of the important tourist attractions in Yuanli Township.
