Dongli Family Heritage - Century-Old House Introduction
Yuanli Township was originally the habitat of the Dakas people (also known as the Pingpu people). Before the Qing Dynasty, there were four Dakas communities: "Fangli," "Yuanli," "Maoyu," and "Ribei." The area around Zhong Gou Wei (the western end of the Zhong Gou area) is flat and expansive, where the "Zheng Family Settlement in Zhong Gou" was built under the guidance of ancestral wisdom. The entire architectural layout of the "Zheng Family Settlement in Zhong Gou" faces south, and when viewed from a distance in the south, it is backed by mountains to the north and has a creek to the south; to the right is the "Zheng Family Old House," in the center is the "Dongli Family Courtyard," and to the left is the "Zheng Residence," a traditional Japanese-style building. The east and west are connected to form a large settlement that is quite spectacular. The "Dongli Family Courtyard," with its outward appearance of a traditional three-part courtyard, is a rare and well-preserved red brick and Glazed Tile building in Taiwan. Under government assistance for renovation and protection, it showcases the original architectural artistry with intricate traditional Chinese construction techniques; along with the century-old cypress tree in front of the courtyard, it connects the main building of the three-part courtyard with the two auxiliary buildings on both sides, forming the most distinctive accommodation area that attracts various television stations for filming. It is also one of the important tourist attractions in Yuanli Township.
