Shanjiao Elementary School Introduction
Due to its location at the intersection of the Mountain-Sea Railway and being the geographical center of Yuanli Township, Shangjiao Village attracted a large crowd over thirty years ago, developing into a bustling town with numerous small and medium-sized factories and shops. It is backed by Huoyanshan (Fire Mountain), which provides high-quality soil suitable for brick and tile manufacturing, resulting in a glorious history of brick and tile kilns in this area. Moreover, the skills of local women have given the rush weaving industry a stage to shine. However, with the changes of time, the once prosperous brick and tile industry and rush weaving have faded away. Local residents are concerned that out-migration will create bottlenecks in local development. Thus, in 2004, they established the "Shangjiao Community Development Association of Yuanli Township, Miaoli County" to identify and integrate the community's characteristics and redevelop the rush weaving, brick carving art culture, and rice-related industries. Now, with the association's dedicated management, the Shangjiao community has found a new pathway, regularly hosting DIY workshops or related exhibitions and providing guided tours of cultural sites, becoming a cultural community that showcases local characteristics.
