The House of the Virgin Mary at Loreto Introduction
The House of the Virgin Mary of Loreto, located in Touhu Township, was completed and opened for use on March 25, 2007. Like the original House of Loreto in Italy, it is the third House of Loreto in the world and the only one in Asia, serving as a pilgrimage site for Catholics. The original House of Loreto in Italy is a Catholic shrine that attracts nearly a million pilgrims from around the globe each year. In Catholic belief, it was relocated from the home of the Virgin Mary in Nazareth, Israel, where Mary was called by God to become the mother of Jesus. The bricks of the House of Loreto are said to have been touched by Jesus as a child, and they are now housed in the House of Loreto in Italy for the faithful to venerate. Besides the shrine, the garden views at this location are equally stunning. The stone statue of the Virgin Mary at the entrance seems to welcome visitors, and the clean environment along with the European-style architecture is filled with diverse cultural charm, making it truly worth visiting and experiencing in person.
