House of the Virgin Mary at Loreto Introduction
Located in Touhu Township, the House of the Virgin Mary of Loreto was completed and opened for use on March 25, 2007. Similar to the original House of the Virgin Mary of Loreto in Italy, it is the third of its kind in the world and the only one in Asia, serving as a pilgrimage site for Catholics. The original House of Loreto in Italy is a Catholic shrine that attracts nearly a million pilgrims from around the world each year. In the Catholic faith, it is believed to have been moved from Nazareth, Israel, the home of the Virgin Mary, where she was chosen by God to become the mother of Jesus. The bricks of the House of Loreto were touched by Jesus during his childhood and have been relocated to the original House of Loreto in Italy for pilgrims to venerate. Beyond the shrine, the garden area is equally stunning, with a stone sculpture of the Virgin Mary at the entrance that seems to welcome all visitors. The pristine environment and European-style architecture are filled with a blend of different cultural exotic styles, making it truly worthwhile to visit and experience in person.
