Donghua Camphor Factory Introduction
The area around Tongluo in Miaoli is densely planted with camphor trees. In the past, there were over a hundred camphor oil factories, and today, Donghua Camphor Factory is the only remaining camphor distillation factory in Taiwan. Established in 1937, the factory has been operating for over seventy years and is currently managed by the third-generation owner. The factory preserves the brain license issued by the Governor-General of Taiwan, made of cypress wood, which can be considered a treasure of the factory. As soon as you arrive at the entrance, you can smell the strong aroma of camphor. The products in the shop are abundant. Initially, Donghua only produced camphor oil and lemongrass oil, but after the third-generation owner took over, efforts were made to develop new products. He even pursued further studies in a cosmetics research class at Providence University, creatively developing over 200 products, including handmade soaps, shampoos, and body washes. The small shop is filled with a wide variety of products that can be overwhelming. In recent years, the old camphor factory has integrated new ideas, offering guided tours on camphor production and allowing children to participate in DIY soap making, leaving everyone with beautiful memories enriched with knowledge.
