Donghua Camphor Factory Introduction

Miaoli's Donghua Camphor Factory, located in the Dongliao area, is the only remaining camphor distillation factory in Taiwan. Established in 1937, the factory has been operating for over seventy years and is currently managed by the third generation of its owners. The factory still preserves a valuable license issued by the Taiwan Governor's Office, made of cypress wood, which is considered a treasure of the factory. As soon as you arrive at the entrance, you can smell the rich aroma of camphor. The products available in the shop are quite diverse. Initially, Donghua produced only camphor oil and lemongrass oil, but since the third generation took over, they have been committed to developing new products. The owner even enrolled in a cosmetics research program at Providence University to innovate and has since developed around 200 products, including handmade soaps, shampoos, and body washes. The small shop is filled with a plethora of products that can be overwhelming to browse through. In recent years, the old camphor factory has incorporated new ideas, offering guided tours explaining the camphor production process and allowing children to make DIY soap, creating wonderful and educational memories for all visitors.
