Donghua Camphor Factory Introduction
Miaoli's Tongluo area is richly planted with camphor trees. In the past, there were over a hundred camphor oil factories, and now Donghua Camphor Factory is the only remaining camphor oil distillation factory in Taiwan. Founded in 1937, the factory has been operating for over seventy years and is currently managed by the third-generation owner. The factory still preserves the camphor distillation license issued by the Governor-General's Office of Taiwan, which is made of cypress wood and can be considered a treasure of the factory. As soon as you arrive at the entrance, you can smell the rich aroma of camphor. The products in the store are quite varied. Originally, Donghua only produced camphor oil, lemongrass oil, and other essential oil products. After the third-generation owner took over, he focused on developing new products, even taking courses in cosmetics research at Providence University to unleash creativity and develop 200 different products, including handmade soaps, shampoos, body washes, and more. The small store is filled with a wide array of products that can be overwhelming. In recent years, the old camphor factory has integrated new ideas, providing guided tours of camphor production for tourists and allowing children to make their own DIY soaps, ensuring that everyone leaves with fond and knowledgeable memories.
