Donghua Camphor Factory Introduction

The area around Tongluo in Miaoli is densely populated with camphor trees. In the past, there were over a hundred camphor factories, and today, Donghua Camphor Factory is the only remaining camphor distillery in Taiwan. Founded in 1937, the factory has been operating for over seventy years and is currently run by the third generation of owners. It still retains the original camphor license issued by the Governor-General's Office of Taiwan, made of cypress wood, which can be considered a treasure of the factory. As soon as you arrive at the entrance, you can smell the strong aroma of camphor. The store offers a wide range of products; initially, Donghua exclusively produced camphor oil, lemongrass oil, and other essential oils. After taking over, the third-generation owner has focused on developing new products, even pursuing further studies in cosmetics at Providence University. They have creatively developed over 200 products, including handmade soaps, shampoos, and shower gels, making the small store filled with an overwhelming variety of items. In recent years, the old camphor factory has incorporated new ideas, providing guided tours of the camphor production process for visitors and allowing children to participate in DIY soap-making, ensuring everyone leaves with wonderful and enlightening memories.
