Shetou Dou Mountain Temple Introduction
The existing Dou Mountain Shrine in Shetou is a traditional Minnanese-Cantonese Han-style building from the Japanese colonial era. Its internal structure is a bracketed beam wooden framework, and the wood carvings are considered exquisite, especially the painted decorations that reflect regional characteristics. It was crafted by two schools of artisans from Changhua and Yunlin, with rich and diverse content and themes. The Dou Mountain Shrine was affected by the 921 earthquake, resulting in significant damage to some of its main structures. However, after reinforcement, it has been able to largely retain its original appearance, though it still requires restoration. The Dou Mountain Shrine is not only a clan temple with historical and cultural significance and a symbol of ethnic spirit, but it is also closely integrated with the local social and cultural context.
