Shetou Doushan Temple Introduction
The existing Dou Shan Temple in Shetou is a traditional Fujian and Cantonese building from the Japanese colonial period. Its internal structure is a lifted beam wooden structure, featuring exquisite wood carvings, especially vibrant paintings that showcase regional characteristics. It was constructed by two factions of craftsmen from Changhua and Yunlin, and its content and themes are diverse and rich in meaning. The Dou Shan Temple was affected by the 921 earthquake, resulting in serious damage to some main structures. However, after reinforcement, it generally retains its original appearance, although it still requires restoration. The Dou Shan Temple serves as an ancestral hall, symbolizing not only historical culture and ethnic spirit but also being closely integrated with the local social and cultural context.
