Shetou Doushan Temple Introduction
The existing Dou Shan Temple in Shetou is a traditional Minnan-Yue Han-style building from the Japanese colonial period. Its interior structure belongs to the bracket-lifted wooden structure, and the wood carvings are considered exquisite, especially the painted decorations, which exhibit regional characteristics. They are a collaboration between two groups of craftsmen from Changhua and Yunlin, with rich and diverse content and meanings. The Dou Shan Temple was affected by the 921 earthquake, resulting in severe damage to some of its main structures. However, after reinforcement, it can generally maintain its original appearance, although it still requires restoration. The Dou Shan Temple serves as an ancestral hall, symbolizing not only historical culture and ethnic spirit but also a close integration with the local social and cultural fabric.
