Tsong Sheng Temple Introduction
Zongsheng Shrine was established in 1927 during the Japanese Showa era. The construction took two years and was completed in 1929. Originally located by the Wannian River, the surrounding land has undergone years of development, and the shrine is now surrounded by buildings. The front area facing the river has also been isolated from the shrine itself by many structures. However, the foundation of the shrine remains square, and its layout is intact. The front features a Western-style archway, a front courtyard, the main shrine body, and an earthen embankment at the back, which supports the residence behind it. Zongsheng Shrine fully demonstrates the architectural characteristics of Hakka residential design, with its layout oriented north-south and a pattern of two halls and two side wings. The embankment at the back is supported by a mountain, while the main shrine's dragon seat in the inner hall, the worship courtyard, the front hall, the gatehouse, and the crescent-shaped pool align with the Wannian River, forming a complete axis that reflects the traditional Feng Shui concepts of the Hakka people.
