Lidao Tribe Introduction
Litao Village is the highest community in Heping Township and is one of the larger Bunun villages along the eastern section of the Southern Cross-Island Highway, located at kilometer 175.5 on Provincial Highway 20, with an elevation exceeding one thousand meters. It serves as a significant rest stop along the Southern Cross-Island Highway tourism route. The name comes from the Bunun language "Litu," which means wild loquat. Most residents are Bunun people, and the entire village is situated on a flat river terrace surrounded by mountains, making it suitable for living and farming. The surrounding mountains create beautiful scenery, offering a tranquil paradise-like atmosphere. The high-altitude climate provides cool and clean air, making it a great place to escape the summer heat. Being a key stop along the eastern section of the Southern Cross-Island Highway, many long-distance vehicles take a break here. The village's calm and leisurely atmosphere helps visitors relieve their travel fatigue. There are also shops in the village selling local products, such as cabbage, alpine jelly, and fresh mushrooms, which are quite popular, making it an ideal place for a midway rest.
