Liukou Hot Spring Introduction
Liukou Hot Spring is located in Haiduan Township, Taitung County, at the 179K mark of the Southern Cross-Island Highway. Travelers passing through this area can easily spot many visitors relaxing and soaking their feet in the hot springs, as well as local residents coming to steam and cook hot spring eggs with simple tools. The Liukou Hot Spring was discovered by road workers during the construction of the Southern Cross-Island Highway, when they found hot spring water gushing from the rock wall. They dug holes to channel the hot spring water for relaxation and stress relief during their breaks. In 2008, after renovations by the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration, it became a clean and comfortable Liukou Hot Spring pool. The spring water at this site shares the same source as Bihshan Hot Spring, classified as a "sodium bicarbonate spring," which is clear and tasteless and suitable for both drinking and bathing. Since the hot spring flows from the limestone rock wall and riverbed next to the Xinwulu River, the water temperature at the outlet can reach 70-80 degrees Celsius; it gradually cools down, becoming suitable for foot soaking after reaching the fourth, fifth, and sixth pools. The administration has also thoughtfully placed temperature reminder signs next to each hot spring pool to prevent visitors from accidentally getting burned. Along the Southern Cross-Island Highway, there are many famous hot spring attractions. The Liukou Hot Spring pools offer free foot soaking and are situated beside beautiful mountain streams, making it perfect for a rest during a journey. Visitors can soak their feet while appreciating the stunning limestone formations created by the hot spring water, listening to the gentle flowing stream, and enjoying delicious hot spring eggs cooked in the clean spring water, resulting in a delightful and relaxing mini hot spring trip along the Southern Cross-Island Highway!
