Liukou Hot Springs Introduction
Liukou Hot Springs is located in Haiduan Township, Taitung County, at the 179K mark of the Southern Cross-Island Highway. Travelers passing through this area will easily notice many visitors relaxing and soaking their feet, as well as local residents bringing simple equipment to steam and cook hot spring eggs. The Liukou Hot Springs were actually discovered by road construction workers while excavating the Southern Cross-Island Highway, who found hot spring water gushing out from the rock wall. They dug holes to channel the hot spring water, using it for relaxation during breaks. In 2008, the management office of the Huadong Valley National Scenic Area renovated and rebuilt the site, transforming it into clean and comfortable Liukou Hot Springs Pools. The spring source here is shared with Biyun Hot Springs, and the water quality belongs to the "sodium bicarbonate spring," which is clear and tasteless, suitable for both drinking and bathing. Since the hot spring water flows out from the stalactite rock wall and riverbed beside the Xinwulu River, the outlet water temperature reaches up to 70-80 degrees Celsius, gradually cooling down by the time it reaches the fourth, fifth, and sixth pools where the water is suitable for foot soaking. The management office has thoughtfully placed temperature warning signs next to each hot spring pool to prevent visitors from accidentally scalding themselves. There are many well-known hot spring spots along the Southern Cross-Island Highway, and because the Liukou Hot Springs offer free foot soaking and are located beside beautiful mountain stream valleys, they are perfect for a quick rest during your journey. Visitors can enjoy the stunning stalactite rock walls formed by the gushing hot spring water, listen to the babbling stream, and indulge in hot spring eggs cooked in the clean spring water, making it a delightful and relaxing mini-trip to the Southern Cross hot springs!
