Liukou Hot Springs Introduction
Liukou Hot Spring is located in Haiduan Township, Taitung County, at the 179K mark of the Southern Cross-Island Highway. Travelers passing through this area can easily find many tourists relaxing with their feet in the hot springs, as well as local residents bringing simple tools to cook hot spring eggs. The Liukou Hot Spring was discovered by construction workers while digging the Southern Cross-Island Highway, who found hot spring water flowing out from the rock face. They dug holes to channel the hot spring water for relaxation during their breaks. In 2008, after renovations by the Huadong Valley National Scenic Area Administration, it became a clean and comfortable Liukou Hot Spring pool. The hot spring in this area shares the same source as Bisha Hot Spring and belongs to the "sodium bicarbonate spring" category, which is suitable for both drinking and bathing, and is clear and tasteless. The hot spring water flows out from the stalactite rock walls and streambed of the Xinwulu River, with temperatures reaching 70-80 degrees Celsius at the outlet. The water gradually cools down as it flows to the fourth, fifth, and sixth pools where the temperature is suitable for foot soaking. The management has thoughtfully installed temperature reminder signs next to each hot spring pool to prevent visitors from accidentally scalding themselves. There are several well-known hot spring attractions along the Southern Cross-Island Highway, and since the Liukou Hot Spring pools are free for foot soaking and situated along a beautiful mountain stream valley, it is perfect for a quick rest during your journey. Visitors can enjoy the stunning stalactite rock formations crystallized by the hot spring water, listen to the gentle stream, and also savor the delicious hot spring eggs cooked in the clean spring water. It offers a delightful and relaxing little hot spring trip along the Southern Cross-Island Highway!
