Liukou Hot Springs Introduction
Liukou Hot Springs is located in Haiduan Township, Taitung County, at the 179K mark of the Southern Cross-Island Highway. Travelers passing through this area will notice many visitors relaxing and soaking their feet, as well as local residents bringing simple tools to cook hot spring eggs. The Liukou Hot Springs were discovered by road construction workers while excavating the Southern Cross-Island Highway, who found hot spring water gushing from the rock wall and dug holes to channel the spring water for relaxation during their breaks. In 2008, the Huadong Valley National Scenic Area Administration renovated and rebuilt the site, turning it into clean and comfortable Liukou Hot Spring pools. The spring source of Liukou Hot Springs is from the same origin as Biyun Hot Springs, categorized as "bicarbonate spring" water that is clear and tasteless, suitable for drinking and bathing. Since the hot spring water flows from the stalactite rock walls and streambed next to the Xinwulu River, the water temperature at the outlet can reach 70-80 degrees Celsius, with the temperatures becoming suitable for foot soaks after flowing to the fourth, fifth, and sixth pools. The management has thoughtfully placed temperature warning signs beside each hot spring pool to prevent visitors from accidental burns. Along the Southern Cross-Island Highway, there are many famous hot spring attractions, and because the Liukou Hot Spring pools offer free foot soaking and are located beside beautiful mountain valleys, it is a perfect spot to take a break and rest during your journey. Visitors can enjoy the stunning stalactite rock formations formed by the gushing hot spring water while listening to the gentle stream, and also savor the delicious hot spring eggs cooked with clean spring water, making it a delightful and relaxing little hot spring trip on the Southern Cross-Island Highway!
