Miaoli Mountain Introduction
Motian is renowned for its primeval forest, but it has gradually been transformed into a high-altitude vegetable garden due to deforestation, and the appearance of the original forest has changed over time. The avian ecological resources in Motian are rich, featuring a variety of birds, including herons and rails, alongside the rare black-faced spoonbill, though the once famous swamp hen has become extinct in the area. Nearby, there are magnificent landscapes hidden within, such as the trailhead to the Xinwulu River upstream hot springs, located on the right side of the grocery store 169 kilometers from Motian Farm, which takes about 50 minutes to hike; the nearby Nanhuan Forest, thick and lush; and the 9-kilometer-long Xinwulu River Canyon between Lidao and Lululu, which has an S-shaped profile when viewed from the cross-section, where the mountain range forms great cliffs, creating breathtaking and imposing scenery, making it a great destination for outdoor activities.
