Jiaming Lake Introduction
Located on the southern cross-island highway, on the east side of Xiangyang Mountain, Jiamei Lake is a high-altitude lake about 7 kilometers in a straight line. It is often referred to as the "Blue Sapphire Lost by an Emperor" and the "Tears of Angels." This oval-shaped lake is surrounded by lush green forests, with its clear surface reflecting the azure sky, creating a tranquil and enchanted atmosphere. Jiamei Lake, situated above Xiangyang, is the second highest high-altitude lake in Taiwan, second only to the Cuichui Pond on Xueshan. The lake is approximately 120 meters long, 80 meters wide, and 6 meters deep, at an elevation of about 3,310 meters. Before visiting Jiamei Lake, you must register at the Xiangyang police station in Xiangyang National Forest Recreation Area to ensure your safety. After departing from the Xiangyang Forest Recreation Area, you will pass by the Jiamei Lake trailhead, Xiangyang Mountain Hut, Heishuitang, Yushan Juniper, Xiangyang Cliff, Xiangyang Mountain, Jiamei Lake intersection, Xiangyang Mountain triangulation point, Yushan Azalea, Sancha Mountain, Xiangyang Mountain fork, Sancha Mountain, Jiamei Lake fork, Sancha Mountain triangulation point, and finally arrive at Jiamei Lake. This hiking trip takes approximately three days, with Xiangyang Mountain Hut, Jiamei Lake Mountain Hut, and the Jiamei Lake campsite as the available accommodations along the way. As the altitude increases, the mixed coniferous and broadleaf forests transition to coniferous forests, which then turn into alpine meadows. At night, the starry sky adds to the changing scenery, creating an incredibly breathtaking view. The expansive meadows, with Jiamei Lake resembling a blue sapphire set amidst endless green velvet, are stunningly dazzling. The forests and meadows near Jiamei Lake are also inhabited by water deer, and if you're lucky, you might have the chance to encounter them up close. Despite the challenging journey and the physical exertion required, the stunning sights make it hard to give up.
