Liyuan Station (Guanshan Old Railway Station) Introduction
Guanshan Old Railway Station, also known as Lilong Station, where "Station" in Japanese means "train station," and "Lilong" is an Amis word that refers to the abundance of "red bugs" in the area. The Guanshan Old Railway Station was built in 1919 during the Taisho period by the Taitung Sugar Manufacturing Company. In 1980, a new station was constructed about 100 meters away from the old station. After years of being idle, the old station was restored with funding from the Taitung County Government, making it the only preserved railway station building from the Japanese colonial period along the Eastern Railway Main Line. Lilong Station is very close to attractions in the bustling area of Guanshan Township. Visitors can ride bicycles from Lilong Station to visit sites such as the Old Guanshan Station’s staff quarters, Taitung Mazu Temple, and Guanshan Police History Museum, exploring the Japanese-style architecture that remains in the town, as if traveling back in time to a century ago to understand the development story of Guanshan Township. Visitors can also stop by Guanshan American School to experience farming fun and taste the delicious Guanshan rice, and then continue on the Guanshan Circular Bike Path, passing by Guanshan Riverside Park to enjoy the scenic green waters and appreciate the changing rice field views across the seasons, all while experiencing the tranquil and leisurely lifestyle of Guanshan Township.
