Guanshan Mazu Temple Introduction
The main hall of Tianhou Temple enshrines Mazu, the Heavenly Mother, with a statue of her standing approximately 1.2 meters tall. The original statue of Mazu is still present. The left hall features an embroidered curtain with the inscription "Civilization and Valor Shake the World," enshrining Guan Sheng Di Jun and Confucius, the Most Sage. The right hall has an embroidered curtain with the inscription "Abundant Harvests and Peaceful People," enshrining Shennong and the Goddess of Birth. Unlike most temples in western Taiwan, this temple has a statue of Confucius instead of using a spirit tablet for worship. The Tianhou Temple in Guanshan Township is one of the older temples in Taitung County, covering an extensive area of about 400 ping. The main entrance has a majestic gate tower, with a large banyan tree on each side of the temple courtyard. In the center lies a dragon spring pond, and to the left front is a stage. The temple itself is structured in a double-hall hip-roof style, with the worship pavilion in front and the main hall behind, separated by a central courtyard. The left side of the temple houses the Three Treasures Buddha Hall, which is affiliated with the temple. Despite being located amidst the bustling streets, the Tianhou Temple offers a serene atmosphere, making it a center of faith and a great place for leisure for the townspeople.
