Guanshan Mazu Temple Introduction
The Tianhou Temple's main hall enshrines the Heavenly Queen, with the Mazu statue standing about 1.2 meters tall. The original Mazu statue is still present. The left hall is adorned with a curtain inscribed with "Civilization and Power Shake the World," dedicated to Guan Sheng Di Jun and Confucius. The right hall features a curtain inscribed with "Abundant Harvests and Peaceful Lives," dedicated to Shennong Daudi and the Zhusha Niangniang. Unlike the typical temples in western Taiwan that use tablets to worship Confucius, this temple features a statue of Confucius. The Tianhou Temple in Guanshan Township is one of the older temples in Taitung County, covering an extensive area of approximately 400 ping. The main entrance has a grand and lofty gate tower, with large banyan trees on either side of the temple courtyard and a Longquan pond in the center, while a stage is located to the left front. The temple itself is constructed in a double-hall, hipped-roof style, with the worship pavilion in the front and the main hall in the back, separated by a courtyard. To the left of the temple is the Sampo Buddha Hall, which is affiliated with the temple. Although the Tianhou Temple is located amidst the bustling streets, it remains a serene center of faith for the townspeople and a great place for leisure.
