The Upside Down Water Flow Wonder Introduction
The Upside-Down Water Phenomenon is located near the 148 km mark on Taiwan Provincial Highway 11, approximately 1.8 kilometers from Dulan. Originally an agricultural irrigation ditch, it gained fame due to an optical illusion created by slight differences in topography, making it appear as if water flows upward. A stone tablet inscribed with "Wonder" has been erected beside the ditch. This phenomenon occurs because the road beside the ditch is sloped downward, but the ditch itself has a very slight upward slope. Therefore, when standing at a lower elevation, it seems as though the water in the ditch is flowing uphill along the downward-sloping road, which is quite astonishing. To enhance the visitor experience, the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration has not only renovated the surrounding area of the Upside-Down Water but also installed public restrooms and local workshop facilities. Visitors can take a break at the bar in the workshop, enjoying a drink or fruit, and even purchase souvenirs, making it very convenient.
