Xin Dong Sugar Factory Cultural Park Introduction
The Xindong Sugar Factory Culture Park is located in Dulan Village, Donghe Township, nestled at the foot of the picturesque Dulan Mountain. The Xindong Sugar Factory was originally built in the 1930s during the Japanese colonial period, funded by private investors. Due to the area's excellent sugarcane cultivation conditions, it once ranked first in annual production among the 19 sugar factories in Taiwan. However, it closed in 1991 due to changes in Taiwan's economic structure. The factory remained idle for many years, but under the guidance of the Taitung County Government, it has been actively transformed into the "Xindong Sugar Factory Culture Park," bringing in artists, local youth, and dining vendors to create a vibrant arts and creative space filled with dreams and passion. Visitors can experience the unforgettable taste of the traditional Amis rice wine, crafted with a passionate flair. Studios of woodworkers and potters showcase meticulously crafted furniture and tableware, each piece uniquely made by the hands of artists. There are also cafes and bistros that use local ingredients, often featuring live singers, making them perfect choices for family gatherings or couple dates that blend character and charm. After exploring the sugar factory, every corner of Dulan Village is worth visiting. Guided tours can be arranged to gain deeper insights into the stories of Dulan Village through traditional dwelling houses or to participate in the Amis' "American Life" tribal experience. A trip to Dulan offers not only fun but also a deep dive into the local culture.
