Xindong Sugar Factory Cultural Park Introduction
The Xindong Sugar Factory Cultural Park is located in Dulan Village, Donghe Township, nestled at the foot of the picturesque Dulan Mountain. The Xindong Sugar Factory was initially established in the 1930s during the Japanese colonial period, funded by private investment. Due to the favorable sugarcane cultivation conditions in the area, it once ranked first among the 19 sugar factories in Taiwan in terms of annual production. However, it ceased operations in 1991 due to changes in Taiwan's economic structure. After being idle for many years, the sugar factory was actively transformed into the Xindong Sugar Factory Cultural Park with the guidance of the Taitung County Government, welcoming artists, local youth, and dining establishments to become a vibrant and creative arts park full of dreams and passion. The traditional millet wine brewed by the Amis people is a memorable taste that is hard to forget; the studios of woodworkers and potters showcase exquisitely crafted furniture and tableware, each piece is unique and handcrafted by artists. Of course, there are also cafes and bistros using local ingredients, often featuring live performances by singers, making it a great choice for family gatherings or romantic dates that offer both character and atmosphere. After exploring the sugar factory, every corner of Dulan Village is worth visiting. Guided tours can be arranged to learn more about Dulan Village's stories in traditional domain houses or participate in the Amis people's "American Lifestyle" village experience. A visit to Dulan not only promises fun but also a deeper exploration of the area.
