New Dong Sugar Factory Cultural Park Introduction
The Xindong Sugar Factory Cultural Park is located in Dulan Village, Donghe Township, nestled at the foot of the scenic Dulan Mountain. The Xindong Sugar Factory was originally built in the 1930s during the Japanese colonial period, funded by private investment. Due to the favorable conditions for sugarcane cultivation in the area, it once ranked first in annual production among the 19 sugar factories in Taiwan. However, due to changes in Taiwan's economic structure, it closed in 1991. The factory remained idle for many years, but under the guidance of the Taitung County government, it was actively transformed into the "Xindong Sugar Factory Cultural Park," attracting artists, local youth, and dining businesses, thus becoming a vibrant cultural and creative park full of dreams and passion. The traditional Amei rice wine, brewed with a sweet yet strong flavor, offers an unforgettable taste after just one sip. The studios of woodworkers and potters display exquisitely crafted tables, chairs, and tableware, each piece is uniquely made by the artists' hands. There are also cafes and bistros that utilize local ingredients, often featuring live performances by singers, making it a great choice for family gatherings or romantic dates with both character and charm. After exploring the sugar factory, every corner of the Dulan Village is worth visiting. Guided tours can be arranged to delve into the stories of Dulan Village from traditional domain cottages, or to participate in the Amei tribe’s "American Life" community experience. A trip to Dulan promises not only fun but also a deep and enriching experience.
