Xindong Sugar Factory Cultural Park Introduction
The Xindong Sugar Factory Cultural Park is located in Dulan Village, Donghe Township, nestled at the scenic foot of Dulan Mountain. The Xindong Sugar Factory was originally built in the 1930s during the Japanese colonial period, funded by private investments. Due to the favorable conditions for sugarcane cultivation in the area, it once ranked first among the 19 sugar factories in Taiwan in annual production. However, due to changes in Taiwan's economic structure, it ceased operations in 1991. After being dormant for many years, the sugar factory was actively transformed into the "Xindong Sugar Factory Cultural Park" with the guidance of the Taitung County Government, attracting artists, local youths, and dining businesses to create a vibrant cultural and creative hub filled with dreams and passion. The traditional Ami rice wine, brewed with a kick, offers an unforgettable taste. The studios of woodworkers and potters display exquisitely crafted furniture and tableware, each piece unique and made by the hands of artists. There are also cafes and bistros utilizing local ingredients, with occasional live performances by singers, making it a perfect spot for family gatherings or romantic dates, combining character and charm. After exploring the sugar factory, every corner of Dulan Village is worth visiting. Guided tours can be arranged to deeply understand the stories of Dulan Village through traditional domain houses or participate in the Ami "American-style life" community experience. A trip to Dulan is not only fun but also immersive.
