Fushan Fishing Resource Conservation Area Introduction
Fushan Fishing Protection Area is located on the coast of Shanyuan in Beinan Township, Taitung County, at the southern end of Dulan Bay. It is the only beach in Taitung County and was formerly known as "Shanyuan Beach." The Fushan sea area was once rich in fishery resources, but overfishing over a decade ago severely damaged the marine ecology, making it difficult for fishermen to survive and reducing its recreational value. In 2005, it was designated as the Fushan Fisheries Resource Conservation Area, transforming it into a coastal attraction with a rich intertidal ecosystem along the East Coast. Both fish populations and coral reefs have been well preserved. Initially, the establishment of the Fushan Fisheries Resource Conservation Area caused some inconvenience for local fishermen, but with the protection of fish habitats, fish resources outside the conservation area have increased, leading to gradually stabilizing catches. After the establishment of the Fushan Fishing Protection Area, it has attracted local Taiwanese tourists as well as visitors from Japan, Canada, South Korea, and mainland China, creating tourist traffic for the local community. Nowadays, the rehabilitation rates of marine life such as fish, shrimp, and shellfish are rapidly growing, opening up business opportunities in the area, with residents becoming ecological interpreters and snorkeling guides. Community residents have also initiated promotional activities for "Coastal Resource Conservation - Sustainable Development," such as parent-child beach treasure hunts, weekend beach clean-up activities, and ecological education programs, along with ecological surveys conducted by the Shanyuan Marine Resource Protection Association in this area. The close interaction among the ocean, ecology, and local community residents has formed a beautiful "Marine Ecological Community," creating multi-level values of marine resources and achieving sustainable development.
