Fushan Fishery Resources Conservation Area Introduction
Fushan Fishing Conservation Area is located at Shan Yuan beach in Beinan Township, Taitung County, at the southern end of Dulan Bay. It is the only seawater bathing area in Taitung County, which was formerly known as "Shan Yuan Seawater Bathing Area." The Fushan sea area once had abundant fish resources, but overfishing over a decade ago severely damaged the marine ecosystem, making it difficult for fishermen to survive and reducing recreational value. In 2005, it was designated as the Fushan Fisheries Resource Conservation Area, becoming a coastal attraction rich in intertidal ecosystem on the East Coast, with fish populations and coral reefs well preserved. Initially, the establishment of the Fushan Fisheries Resource Conservation Area caused some inconveniences for local fishermen, but with habitat protection, fish resources outside the area have increased, leading to a gradual stabilization in catch. Since the establishment of the Fushan Fishing Conservation Area, it has attracted not only local tourists from Taiwan but also visitors from Japan, Canada, South Korea, and mainland China, fostering tourism in the local community. Today, the restoration rates of marine organisms such as fish, shrimp, and shellfish have rapidly grown, creating business opportunities where residents have become ecological interpreters and snorkeling guides. Community residents have also initiated promotional activities like "Conservation of Coastal Resources - Sustainable Development," including parent-child beach treasure hunts, weekend beach clean-up activities, ecological education, and ecological surveys by the Shan Yuan Marine Resources Protection Association in the area. The close interaction between the ocean, the ecology, and the local community residents has formed a beautiful "Marine Ecological Community," creating different layers of value from marine resources and achieving sustainable development.
