Fushan Fisheries Resource Conservation Area Introduction
Fushan Fishing Area is located on the coast of Shanyuan in Beinan Township, Taitung County, at the southern end of Dulan Bay. It is the only seawater bathing area in Taitung County, which was previously known as "Shanyuan Seawater Bathing Area." The fishing resources in the Fushan sea area were once abundant, but more than a decade ago, overfishing led to severe ecological damage, making it difficult for fishermen to survive and reducing its recreational value. In 2005, it was designated as Fushan Fishery Resource Conservation Area, becoming a coastal attraction rich in intertidal zone ecology, with fish populations and coral reefs well-preserved. Initially, the establishment of the Fushan Fishery Resource Conservation Area caused some inconvenience to fishermen, but with the protection of fish habitats, the fish resources outside the conservation area have increased, leading to a gradual stabilization in fish catches. After the establishment of the Fushan Fishing Area, it has attracted not only local tourists from Taiwan but also visitors from Japan, Canada, South Korea, and mainland China, contributing to the local community's tourism development. Nowadays, the rehabilitation rate of marine life such as fish, shrimp, and shellfish is growing rapidly, creating local business opportunities, with residents becoming ecological interpreters and snorkeling guides. Community members have also initiated promotional activities for "Conserving Coastal Resources - Sustainable Development," such as parent-child beach treasure hunts, weekend beach clean-up activities, and ecological education programs, as well as conducting ecological surveys by the Shanyuan Marine Resource Protection Association in this area. The close interaction between the ocean, the ecology, and the local community has also formed a beautiful "Marine Ecological Community," which creates different layers of value from marine resources and achieves sustainable development.
