Fushan Fishery Resource Conservation Area Introduction

Fushan Fishery Conservation Zone is located on the sandy beach of Shanyuan in Beinan Township, Taitung County, at the southern end of Dulan Bay. It is the only seawater bathing area in Taitung County, which was originally known as "Shanyuan Seawater Bathing Area." The Fushan sea area was once abundant in fishery resources, but due to overfishing over a decade ago, the marine ecosystem was severely damaged, making it difficult for fishermen to survive and diminishing its recreational value. In 2005, it was designated as the Fushan Fishery Resource Conservation Zone, becoming a coastal attraction with rich intertidal ecology along the East Coast. The fish populations and coral reef structures are well-preserved. In the initial stages of the Fushan Fishery Resource Conservation Zone's establishment, fishermen experienced some inconveniences, but with the protection of fish habitats, fish resources in the surrounding areas have increased remarkably, leading to a gradual stabilization of fish catches. Since the establishment of the Fushan Fishery Conservation Zone, it has not only attracted local tourists from Taiwan but also visitors from Japan, Canada, South Korea, and mainland China, creating tourism opportunities for the local community. The recovery rates of marine life such as fish, shrimp, and shellfish have rapidly grown, opening up new business opportunities where local residents have become ecological interpreters and snorkeling guides. Community residents have also initiated promotional activities for "Conserving Coastal Resources - Sustainable Development," including parent-child beach treasure hunts, weekend beach clean-ups, ecological education, and ecological surveys by the Shanyuan Marine Resource Protection Association in the area. The close interaction among the ocean, ecology, and local community residents has formed a beautiful "Marine Ecological Community," creating different layers of value from marine resources and achieving sustainable development.
