Laoxi and Baibao Creek Riverside Park Introduction
Laoxi River and Baibao River are both located upstream of Liyutan in Shoufeng Township and are important sources of water for Liyutan. The stream water, flowing down from the Central Mountain Range, is clear year-round and remains unpolluted. During summer, the refreshing water attracts people who enjoy splashing around, their laughter echoing in the valley, competing with the cicadas—creating a scene reminiscent of a natural summer paradise. This is a hidden gem for the locals in Hualien. Strictly speaking, Baibao River is considered the upstream of Laoxi River, and it is known as a source of "Taiwan jade." The riverbed is rich in various stones shimmering in green and purple, including the famous "Fengtian jade" and "serpentine." Visitors here not only enjoy playing in the water but can also treasure hunt on the riverbed, collecting their favorite stones. The Baibao River cycling and ecological trail, which extends 7.3 kilometers, offers beautiful scenery and combines biking, hiking, river tracing, ecological and cultural activities, making it a perfect way to enjoy a simple lifestyle of leisure travel that cyclists must not miss.
