Carp Pond Introduction
Liushung Pond, located in Shoufeng, Hualien, is the largest inland lake in the Hualien area. The picturesque scenery of the lake and mountains makes it a serene sanctuary known to both locals and tourists. Situated at the northernmost end of the Huatung Valley National Scenic Area, it is a barrier lake formed by the Papaya River and tributaries of the Hualien River. The surrounding mountains resemble koi fish, giving rise to the lake's name. A local saying — "There are koi fish on the mountain and koi fish swimming in the pond" — captures its essence perfectly. The pond is fed by natural springs, ensuring crystal clear waters year-round. Activities such as boating, swimming across Liushung Pond, and dragon boat festivals are held here, along with periodic stunning performances reflecting beautifully on the lake's surface. Additionally, during the firefly season around April, tiny fireflies can be seen flickering by the pond, creating a dazzling display that complements the shimmering waves of the water. Facilities including a waterside park, camping area, and bike path are available for visitors. Strolling here with family or loved ones, one can experience the lush greenery and sparkling water, making for a truly enjoyable life.
