Carp Lake Introduction
Li Yu Tan, located in Shoufeng, Hualien, is the largest inland lake in the Hualien area. The lake’s picturesque scenery of mountains and water has made it a serene sanctuary well-known to both locals and tourists. Situated at the northernmost point of the Huatung Valley National Scenic Area, it is a dammed lake formed by the Papaya Creek and tributaries of the Hualien River. Its surrounding mountains resemble a carp, hence the name of the lake. A local saying goes, "There are carps on Carp Mountain, and they swim in Carp Lake," perfectly illustrating its essence. The lake is fed by underground springs, remaining clear year-round. Activities such as boating, swimming in Li Yu Tan, and dragon boat festivals can be enjoyed here, along with periodic performances reflected on the lake's surface. Additionally, during the firefly season around April each year, one can see the twinkling fireflies along the lake shore, accompanied by the shimmering waves on the water, creating a dazzling scene. The lakeside features facilities such as a waterfront park, camping area, and bike trails for visitors, allowing families and couples to stroll here and enjoy the lush greenery and sparkling waters, making for a beautiful life experience.
