Liyutan Introduction
Li Yu Tan, located in Shoufeng, Hualien, is the largest inland lake in the Hualien area. The picturesque scenery of the lake and mountains is especially enchanting, making it a serene sanctuary well-known to both locals and tourists. Situated at the northernmost end of the Huadong Valley National Scenic Area, it is a dammed lake formed by the Pipa River and tributaries of the Hualien River. The surrounding mountains resemble the shape of a carp, hence the name of both the lake and the mountains. A local saying goes, "There are carps on the Carp Mountain, and in the Carp Pond, they swim," which captures this essence perfectly. The lake is fed by natural springs, remaining clear year-round. Activities such as boating, swimming, and dragon boat races take place here, with periodic performances reflecting beautifully on the lake’s surface. Additionally, during the firefly season around April each year, small fireflies can be seen flickering along the shores, complementing the shimmering waves of the lake. The area around the lake features amenities like a waterfront park, camping areas, and bike paths for visitors, making it a perfect spot to stroll with family or loved ones and enjoy the lush greenery and sparkling waters—a beautiful life awaits here.
