Liyu Lake Introduction
Li Yu Tan, located in Shoufeng, Hualien, is the largest inland lake in the Hualien area. The picturesque scenery of the lake and mountains is particularly enchanting, making it a serene sanctuary known by both locals and visitors. Situated at the northernmost point of the Huatung Valley National Scenic Area, it is a barrier lake formed by the Mugua River and the tributaries of the Hualien River. The surrounding mountains resembling a carp give the lake its name. A local saying, "There are carps on Li Yu Mountain, swimming in Li Yu Tan," reflects this connection well. The lake's water comes from underground springs, remaining clear throughout the year. Activities such as boating, swimming in the lake, and dragon boat festivals take place here, along with periodic spectacular performances reflected on the shimmering surface. Furthermore, during the firefly season around April each year, one can see fireflies flickering along the shore, combined with the sparkling waves of the lake, creating a dazzling sight. There are facilities such as a water park, camping area, and bike paths by the lake for visitors to enjoy, making it an ideal spot for families and couples to stroll and experience the lush greenery and shimmering waters, embodying a wonderful life.
