Carp Lake Introduction
Liushui Pond, located in Shoufeng, Hualien, is the largest inland lake in the Hualien region. The picturesque scenery of the lake and mountains makes it a peaceful sanctuary known to both locals and tourists. Situated at the northern end of the East Rift Valley National Scenic Area, it is a dammed lake formed by the Papaya River and a tributary of Hualien River. Its surrounding mountains resemble carp, hence the name of the lake. A local saying goes, "There are carp on Liushui Mountain, and they swim in Liushui Pond," aptly describing the area. The pond is fed by groundwater springs, keeping the water crystal clear year-round. Activities such as boating, swimming, and dragon boat racing occur on the lake. There are also periodic performances that are reflected beautifully on the water's surface. Additionally, during the firefly season around April, one can see twinkling fireflies by the pond, accompanied by the shimmering lake, creating a dazzling scene. The lakeside area is equipped with facilities such as a waterfront park, camping area, and bike paths for visitors. It's an ideal spot for families and couples to take a stroll, soaking in the greenery and the calming waves, embodying a wonderful way of life.
