Chinan National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Chinan National Forest Recreation Area is named after its location south of Liuyutan (Li-yu Lake) in Shoufeng Township, Hualien. Situated on the hillside next to Laoxi River, it provides a stunning view of the scenery of both Liuyutan and Liyu Mountain. In its early days, the area was a logging site within the Chinan Papaya Mountain Industrial Zone and served as an important timber transfer station. Due to logging bans, logging activities ceased in 1986, marking a transition to a forest recreation area. Thus, the park showcases forestry-related equipment and displays from the past. In outdoor spaces surrounded by trees, various logging machinery from forests across Taiwan is exhibited. Through these well-preserved machinery displays, visitors can reflect on the history of Taiwan's forestry development and experience the hardships of early logging work. Furthermore, after 25 years of logging bans, the forest has gradually restored its lush appearance, preserving natural ecology well, making it a complete ecological classroom. Visitors can fully enjoy this verdant area and breathe in the fresh air.
