Chinan National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Chinan National Forest Recreation Area is named after its location to the south of Liuchuan Lake in Shoufeng, Hualien. Situated on the hillside next to the Laoxi River, it offers a commanding view of Liuchuan Lake and Liyushan Mountain. Initially, the area served as a logging site for the Chinan Papaya Mountain Industrial Zone and was an important timber transfer station. Due to logging bans, operations ceased in 1986, and the area was transformed into a forest recreation zone. Within the park, forestry and equipment related to logging are displayed, showcasing tools and machinery from various logging districts across Taiwan in outdoor exhibitions surrounded by trees. Through these well-preserved displays, visitors can reflect on the history of Taiwan's forestry and appreciate the challenges faced by early logging workers. Additionally, after 25 years of logging prohibition, the forest has gradually restored its lush appearance, preserving natural ecology, and creating a complete ecosystem that serves as a natural classroom. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant greenery and breathe in the fresh air.
