Chinan National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Chinan National Forest Recreation Area is named after its location south of the Liwu Lake in Shoufeng, Hualien. It is situated on the hillside beside the Laoxi River, providing a high vantage point to overlook the beautiful scenery of Liwu Lake and Liyu Mountain. In the early days, the area served as a logging site for the Chinan Papaya Mountain Business District and was an important logging transfer station. Due to logging bans, logging operations ceased in 1986, and the area transformed into a forest recreation area. As a result, the park features displays of forestry equipment and tools related to logging at the time, set in outdoor spaces surrounded by trees, showcasing logging machinery from various forest regions in Taiwan. Through these well-preserved exhibits, visitors can reflect on the history of forestry development in Taiwan and appreciate the hardships of early logging work. Additionally, after 25 years of logging bans, the forest has gradually restored its lush appearance, preserving natural ecology and creating a complete ecosystem that serves as a natural classroom. Visitors can fully enjoy this lush greenery and breathe in the fresh air.
