Chinan National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Chinan National Forest Recreation Area is named for its location south of Liushuang Lake in Hualien County. Situated on the slopes beside the Laoji River, the area offers a commanding view of the stunning scenery of Liushuang Lake and Mount Liyu. Originally, the park served as a logging area part of the Chinan Papaya Mountain Industrial Zone and was an important timber transportation hub. Due to logging bans, operations ceased in 1986, and the area transformed into a forest recreation zone. The park now features displays of forestry equipment and logging-related tools from that era, surrounded by lush greenery. Through these well-preserved tools and exhibits, visitors can revisit the history of Taiwan's forestry development and appreciate the challenges of early logging work. Additionally, having been under a logging ban for 25 years, the forest has gradually regained its former lushness, preserving a healthy natural ecosystem that serves as a complete nature classroom. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant greenery and breathe in the fresh, phytoncide-rich air.
