Chinan National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Chinan National Forest Recreation Area, named after its location south of Li Yu Tan in Shoufeng Township, Hualien, is situated on the slopes beside the Lao River, offering a breathtaking view of the scenic landscape of Li Yu Tan and Li Yu Mountain. The area was originally a logging site for the Chinan Papaya Mountain Project Area and served as an important timber transshipment station. Due to logging bans, the area ceased operations in 1986 and transformed into a forest recreation area. Therefore, the park features exhibitions and displays of forestry and logging-related equipment from that era, with logging machinery from various forest regions around Taiwan showcased in outdoor areas surrounded by trees. Through these well-preserved machines and their introductions, visitors can reflect on the history of Taiwan's forestry development and appreciate the hardships of early logging work. Additionally, after 25 years of logging prohibition, the forest has gradually regained its lush appearance, maintaining a well-preserved natural ecology, making it a complete natural classroom for the ecosystem. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant greenery and breathe in the fresh air filled with phytoncide.
