Chihnan National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Chi Nan National Forest Recreation Area is named after its location south of Liyu Lake in Shoufeng, Hualien. It is situated on the hillside beside the Lao Stream, offering a commanding view of the scenic landscape of Liyu Lake and Liyu Mountain below. The area was originally a logging site for the Chi Nan Papaya Mountain Industrial Zone and an important logging transfer station. Due to logging bans, logging activities ceased in 1986, and the area was transformed into a forest recreation area. As such, the park showcases forestry and the equipment related to logging, displayed in outdoor spaces surrounded by trees, featuring logging machinery from various forest areas across Taiwan. Through the exhibition and introduction of these well-preserved tools, visitors can reflect on the history of forestry in Taiwan and understand the hardships of early logging work. Moreover, with the logging ban in place for 25 years, the forest has gradually regained its lush appearance, preserving the natural ecology well, making it a complete ecological classroom where visitors can enjoy the lush greenery and breathe in the fresh air.
