Si-Bao Elementary School Introduction
Located on the Xibao Terrace, Xibao Elementary School has been recognized by Business Weekly as one of the top 100 distinctive primary schools. Xibao Elementary does not have walls; the entire Taroko Gorge is their campus. As an open forest education experimental school, Xibao Elementary is deeply hidden in the scenic Taroko National Park. It is not only the only elementary school located within a national park but also the first forest experimental elementary school within the education system. Originally a branch of Fushi Elementary School in Xiulin Township, Xibao Elementary has become Hualien County's only national primary school implementing the "residential school" system due to its unique geographical location and diverse cultural background, forming a big family where teachers and students live and learn together. The campus is designed in a courtyard style, and its main building is unique with a hexagonal roof, differing from the standard rectangular shape of typical schools. It was selected as the annual best building by the Architectural Magazine. The waterway at the entrance separates pedestrians and vehicles, providing safer and more natural protective measures in this open learning environment. Standing within the campus, students can absorb the phytoncides of Taroko National Park as they happily learn in sync with nature.
