Xibao Elementary School Introduction
Situated on the Xibao Plateau, Xibao Elementary School has been recognized by Business Weekly as one of the top 100 unique elementary schools. With no walls surrounding the campus, the entire Taroko Gorge serves as their playground. Opened as a forest education experimental school, Xibao Elementary School is nestled within the beautiful landscapes of Taroko National Park. It is not only the only elementary school located within a national park but also the first institutional forest experimental elementary school. Originally a branch of Fushi Elementary School in Xiulin Township, Xibao's unique geographical position and diverse cultural background have made it Hualien County's only public elementary school implementing the "learning residence system," creating a big family where teachers and students live and learn together. The campus design adopts a courtyard style, and its main building does not conform to the typical rigid and boxy appearance of regular schools, featuring a distinctive hexagonal roof green building that was awarded the Annual Best Building Award by Architectural Monthly. The water channel in front of the school gate separates pedestrians and vehicles, providing a safer and more natural protective measure for students in an open learning environment. Standing within the campus, one can absorb the phytoncides of Taroko National Park, while the students happily learn in harmony with nature.
