Zhuilu Old Trail Introduction
The Zhuolu Ancient Trail is part of the Hehuan Cross-Country Trail from the Japanese colonial period. Along the trail, there are tribal ruins, monuments, and more, making it of significant historical and cultural value. Therefore, it has been designated as a "Historic Preservation Area." In 2008, after maintenance and renovation by the Taroko National Park Authority, it was reopened to the public. Visitors wishing to explore must apply for entry permits in advance from the park authority. Visiting the Zhuolu Ancient Trail offers an opportunity to experience the rich and pristine natural scenery and to learn about rare and precious native plants. The view of the Liwu River Gorge from the trail is extensive, making the hike feel as though one is walking on clouds. Some sections of the trail cross the Zhuolu Grand Cliff, where the path is narrow, and there is a vertical drop of about 500 meters to the Liwu River Gorge, making it a highly challenging trail. Therefore, it is not suitable for the weak, those with cardiovascular diseases, those with acrophobia, pregnant women, and children. The park authority has also installed protective barriers or chains at the narrow cliff sections to ensure the safety of climbers. Before entering the trail, visitors must adhere to the relevant regulations and safety precautions, and make every effort to preserve the fragile natural landscape.
