Zhuolu Ancient Trail Introduction
Zhuolu Ancient Trail is a part of the Hehuan Mountain Crossing Trail from the Japanese colonial period. Along the way, there are tribal remnants and monuments, making it highly valuable in terms of historical and cultural significance, which is why it has been designated as a "Historic Preservation Area". In 2008, after renovation and maintenance by the Taroko National Park Administration, it was reopened to the public. Visitors wishing to tour the trail must submit an application to enter the mountains in advance to the Taroko National Park Administration. Exploring the Zhuolu Ancient Trail allows one to experience the rich and pristine natural scenery and to learn about rare and precious native plants. From the trail, one can overlook the Liwu River Gorge, providing an expansive view. Walking on the trail feels like strolling on clouds. Some sections of the Zhuolu Ancient Trail traverse the Zhuolu Grand Cliff, where the path is narrow and has a vertical drop of about 500 meters to the Liwu River Valley, making it a highly challenging trail. Therefore, individuals who are physically weak, have cardiovascular diseases, acrophobia, pregnant women, and children are not recommended to enter. The Taroko National Park Administration has also installed safety railings or chains along narrow cliff sections to ensure climbers' safety. Before entering the ancient trail, it is essential to comply with the relevant regulations and visitor guidelines and to make every effort to preserve the fragile natural environment.
