Budai Scenic Area (Sanzan) Introduction
Sanjan River is primarily fed by the Sanjan South River and merges with the North River near Sanjan Village before flowing into the Pacific Ocean. It is a popular ecotourism destination in Hualien County, situated within Taroko National Park. Its recognition has gradually increased following the establishment of the Bulatan Ecotourism Center. Sanjan River is ideal for ecotourism and stream hiking, featuring deep valleys with clear, emerald waters. The sandy areas along the banks are perfect for wading. This location is also known for the rose stone, a favorite among stone collectors due to its intricate patterns and variances in color, making it a natural masterpiece. However, its similarity to other stones makes it difficult to identify without expertise. Hiking upstream along the river offers beautiful scenery, rivaling that of the Taroko Gorge, leading some to refer to it as "Little Taroko." The well-known stream hiking hotspot, "Golden Gorge," is located within this river valley, making it a popular stream hiking route in Hualien. Additionally, Sanjan River is suitable for observing terrain, geology, and wildlife. It also provides opportunities for sketching while sitting on the rocks, as well as hiking and photography, allowing visitors to experience the unique characteristics of Sanjan River.
