Hsingren Reservoir Introduction
Xingren Village in Makung City, during the Ming Dynasty was called "Shuangtougua," and in the Qing Dynasty it had the additional names "Beiao" and "Shuanggangzi." It was only after the retrocession that it was named "Xingren Village." The village got its name because there are two mountains—Gongbei Mountain and Lion Mountain—hanging over the south and north sides, respectively. Back in the day, "Shuangtougua" was a small village located in a low-lying area south of the current Penghu Air Force Radar Station, which provided shelter and a reliable water source, allowing villagers to engage in farming. Xingren Reservoir is located next to the Shuanghu Garden area, at the intersection of the Penghu 1 and Penghu 4 Lines, and can also be accessed via Penghu 5 Line. This reservoir is an important water storage facility in the Penghu area, mainly supplying water to Makung. Surrounding it are many plantings of Casuarina, Araucaria columnaris, Leucaena leucocephala, Barringtonia asiatica, and coconut palm. At the pavilion on the lake at Shuanghu Garden or at the bird-watching pavilion, there is an inconspicuous place at the end on the left front, which leads in the direction of Xingren Reservoir—it is the wetland of Xingren Reservoir. Here, there is a wooden plank walkway built along the wetland towards the Xingren Reservoir wetland, allowing close proximity to the water source area of the reservoir, and visitors can also enjoy a peaceful birdwatching experience by the lakeside. 【Recommended stay time】 2 hours.
