Hsingjhin Reservoir Introduction
Xingren Village in Magong City was called "Shuangtougua" during the Ming Dynasty and acquired the additional names "Beiao" and "Shuanggangzi" during the Qing Dynasty. It was named "Xingren Village" after the recovery of Taiwan. The name comes from the fact that there are two mountains to the south and north of the village—Gongbei Mountain and Lion Mountain—"hanging" over it. "Shuangtougua" was a small village located in a low-lying area south of the current Penghu Air Force Radar Station, where the water source never dried up, and the villagers engaged in agriculture. The Xingren Reservoir is located next to the Shuanghu Garden area, at the intersection of Penghu Route 1 and Route 4, and can also be accessed from Route 5. This reservoir is an important water storage facility in the Penghu area, mainly supplying water to Magong City. Surrounding the area are many Australian pines, small-leaved Norfolk Island pines, silver wattle, coastal tamarind, and sugarcane. From the pavilion overlooking the lake in the Shuanghu Garden or the bird watching pavilion, there is a subtle path to the left leading towards the direction of the Xingren Reservoir. This area is the wetland of the Xingren Reservoir, where a wooden boardwalk has been constructed along the Shuanghu Garden wetland towards the Xingren Reservoir wetland. Here, you can get a close look at the water source area of the reservoir and enjoy the tranquility while bird watching by the lake. [Suggested time to stay] 2 hours.
