Hsing Ren Reservoir Introduction
Xingren Village, Magong City was called "Shuangtou Gua" during the Ming Dynasty and had two other nicknames, "Beicao" and "Shuanggangzi," during the Qing Dynasty. It was renamed "Xingren Village" after Taiwan's restoration. The name comes from the two mountains, Gongbei Mountain and Lion Mountain, that "hang" (suspend) over the village from the south and north. In the past, "Shuangtou Gua" was a small village located in a low area south of the current Penghu Air Force Radar Station. This area had a consistent water supply, enabling the villagers to engage in agriculture. Xingren Reservoir is located next to the Shuanghu Park, at the intersection of Penghu 1 and Penghu 4 roads, and is accessible via Penghu 5 road as well. This reservoir is an important water storage area for the Penghu region, primarily supplying water to the Magong area. The surrounding area is planted with many Casuarina equisetifolia, Agathis lanceolata, Acacia confusa, Taxodium distichum, and Juncao. You can enjoy bird watching from the pavilion on the Shuanghu Park's lake or the birdwatching pavilion. At the end of the left front, there is an inconspicuous place leading toward the Xingren Reservoir direction, which is the Xingren Reservoir Wetland. A wooden plank path has been built along the Shuanghu Park wetland towards the Xingren Reservoir Wetland. From here, you can get close to the water source area of the reservoir and enjoy quiet bird watching by the lake. [Suggested duration: 2 hours]
