Caiyuan Wetland Introduction
Caiyuan Wetlands is located at the bay bottom on the northeast coast of Magong Inner Harbor, bordered by the Shuanghu Park and Xingren Reservoir along Highway 205 to the north, Xingren Jinshidi alongside Highway 201 to the east, Caiyuan Life Memorial Park to the west, and the intertidal zone of Caiyuan Fish Ponds to the south. During the Japanese occupation, fish ponds were already established along the eastern coast of Caiyuan; after 1945, the area of the fish ponds gradually expanded. In 1971, fishing operations ceased, and this wetland became an ideal stopover, wintering, and migration site for birds. Nearby, operators at Caiyuan Fishing Port can take visitors to observe box-net aquaculture and oyster farming in the inner sea, as well as fishing for calamari and feeding barramundi. The coastline features windbreaks and embankments, with informative signs set up for leisurely birdwatching and coastal walks, making it quite pleasant. The current status of the wetland includes "Xingren Reservoir and Afforestation Area, Shuanghu Park and Mangrove Wetland, Caiyuan Fish Pond Area, and Caiyuan Intertidal Coast Area." This wetland is the most suitable location in Magong City for ecological tourism and outdoor education. It encompasses various natural wetland types with extensive sea areas, and being close to the center of Magong City, it is conveniently accessible, meeting the scale and conditions to be designated as a national wetland park.
