Caicun Wetlands Introduction
Caiyuan Wetland is located at the bay bottom on the northeastern shore of Magong Inner Harbor, bordered by Highway 205 to the north, Shuanghu Garden and Xingren Reservoir, Xingren Jindidi by Highway 201 to the east, Caiyuan Memorial Park to the west, and the intertidal zone of Caiyuan Fish Ponds to the south. During the Japanese occupation period, fish ponds had already been established along the eastern coastline of Caiyuan Village; after 1945, the area of the fish ponds gradually expanded. In 1971, after fish farming was halted, this wetland became an ideal place for birds to migrate, winter, and transit. Nearby, operators at Caiyuan Fishing Port can take visitors to observe cage aquaculture and oyster farming in the inner sea, even fishing for squid and feeding barracuda. Along the coast, there are windbreak forests and embankments, with information boards set up for visitors to stroll, bird-watch, and enjoy the sea, making it quite pleasant. The current state of the wetland includes "Xingren Reservoir and afforestation area, Shuanghu Garden and mangrove wetland, Caiyuan fish pond area, and Caiyuan intertidal coastal area." This wetland is the most suitable location in Magong City for ecological tourism and outdoor education. It encompasses diverse wetland types under natural rain and has a vast area with proximity to the city center, easy transportation, and meets the scale and conditions of national and wetland parks.
The vegetable garden wetland is located near a corner of the bird-watching area.
