Caiyuan Wetland Introduction
Caiyuan Wetland is located at the bay’s bottom on the northeast coast of Magong Inner Harbor. It is bordered by Shuanghu Garden and Xingren Reservoir along Highway 205 to the north, Xingren Jianshi Temple along Highway 201 to the east, Caiyuan Life Memorial Park to the west, and the intertidal zone of Caiyuan Fish Ponds to the south. During the Japanese occupation, fish ponds were already established along the eastern coast of Caiyuan. After 1945, the area of the fish ponds gradually expanded. In 1971, fish farming was halted, and this wetland became the best place for birds to stopover, winter, and migrate. Nearby Caiyuan Fishing Port has operators who can take tourists to observe box-net aquaculture and oysters in the inner sea, and even fish for cuttlefish or feed sea bass. Along the coast, there are windbreak forests and embankments with information boards, allowing pleasant walks for birdwatching and seaside enjoyment. The current status of the wetland includes "Xingren Reservoir and afforestation area, Shuanghu Garden and mangrove wetland, Caiyuan fish pond area, and Caiyuan intertidal coastal area." This wetland is the most suitable place for ecological tours and outdoor education in the Magong urban area. It encompasses a variety of natural wetland types, has vast marine areas, and is conveniently located near the center of Magong City, meeting the scale and conditions of a national and wetland park.
