Penghu Ocean Resources Museum Introduction
The Penghu Marine Resources Museum, attached to the Penghu Cultural Affairs Bureau, consists of two buildings: Building A and Building B. Building A showcases the cultural history of the ocean in Penghu, the evolutionary history of marine life, coral resources in Penghu, rock and mineral resources in Penghu, the geology and topography of the Penghu Islands, intertidal zone displays, and film appreciation. Building B focuses on traditional fishing tools, marine ranching, realistic scenes of fishing village life, the evolution of fishing boats, future underwater worlds, types of fisheries in Penghu, economically important aquatic species in Penghu, distribution and fishing methods of economically important aquatic species in the waters of Penghu, and underwater landscapes. The establishment of the Marine Resources Museum dates back to 1987, when the National Cultural and Creative Industry Development Foundation commissioned Dr. Chang Kun-Hsiung from Academia Sinica to plan the museum, highlighting its mission to promote local marine resources and cultural characteristics. In 1994, under the assistance of Dr. Cheng Ming-Hsiu, the first phase of the project was completed. Subsequently, the second and third phases were carried out starting from 1995, and the museum officially opened in April 1997. The exhibition content focuses on the marine culture of Penghu, including the evolution of life, intertidal fishing practices, coastal fisheries, realistic fishing village life, ecological conservation, and sustainable use of resources, guiding the public to explore and discover the diverse marine culture, ecological characteristics, biodiversity, environmental changes, and sustainable use of marine resources in Penghu, to lay a foundation for marine cultural education and inspire the public to engage in new lifestyles that conserve the ocean. 【Recommended visit time】 1 hour.
