Penghu Marine Resources Museum Introduction
The Penghu Ocean Resources Museum, affiliated with the Penghu County Cultural Affairs Bureau, is divided into two buildings: Building A and Building B. Building A showcases the cultural history of the ocean in Penghu, the evolutionary history of marine organisms, coral resources in Penghu, rock and mineral resources in Penghu, the geology and topography of the Penghu Islands, and exhibits of intertidal zones accompanied by video presentations. Building B focuses on traditional fishing gear, ocean farms, real-life fishing village scenarios, the evolution of fishing boats, the future of the underwater world, types of fisheries in Penghu, economically important aquatic species in Penghu, distribution of economically valuable aquatic biological resources in the waters of Penghu, fishing methods, and underwater landscapes. The establishment of the Ocean Resources Museum dates back to 1987 when it was commissioned by the National Cultural Association under the Executive Yuan and planned by Dr. Chang Kun-Hsiung of Academia Sinica, highlighting the emphasis on promoting local marine resources and cultural characteristics. In 1994, the first phase of construction was completed with the assistance of Dr. Cheng Ming-Hsiu. Subsequently, the second and third phases were carried out starting in 1995, and the museum officially opened its doors in April 1997. The exhibition focuses on Penghu's marine culture, including the evolution of biological species, intertidal fishing practices, coastal fisheries, real-life fishing village scenarios, ecological conservation, and sustainable resource utilization. It aims to guide the public in exploring and discovering the diverse marine culture, marine ecology, biodiversity, environmental changes, and sustainable utilization of marine resources in Penghu, laying a foundation for marine cultural education and inspiring the public to engage in new lifestyles for marine conservation. 【Recommended stay time】 1 hour.
