Penghu Ocean Resource Museum Introduction
The Penghu Marine Resources Museum, affiliated with the Penghu County Cultural Affairs Bureau, is divided into Building A and Building B. Building A showcases the cultural history of marine life in Penghu, the evolutionary history of marine organisms, coral resources in Penghu, rock and mineral resources in Penghu, the geological features of the Penghu Islands, and exhibits on intertidal zones along with film screenings. Building B displays traditional fishing gear, marine ranching, realistic scenes of fishing village life, the evolution of fishing boats, future underwater worlds, various types of fisheries in Penghu, economically important marine species, the distribution and fishing methods of economically important marine species in Penghu waters, and underwater landscapes. The establishment of the Marine Resources Museum dates back to 1987 when the Executive Yuan's Council for Cultural Affairs commissioned Dr. Chang Kun-Hsiung from Academia Sinica to plan the museum, highlighting its mission to promote regional marine resources and cultural characteristics. In 1994, with the assistance of Dr. Cheng Ming-Hsiu, the first phase of construction was completed. Subsequently, the second and third phases were carried out starting in 1995, and the museum officially opened in April 1997. The exhibition content focuses on Penghu's marine culture, encompassing the evolution of organisms, intertidal fishing, nearshore fisheries, realistic scenes of fishing village life, ecological conservation, and sustainable use of resources. It encourages the public to explore and discover the diverse marine culture of Penghu, the ecological landscape, marine biodiversity, environmental changes, and the sustainable use of marine resources, aiming to lay a foundation for marine cultural education and inspire public engagement in marine conservation efforts. 【Recommended duration of visit】 1 hour.
