Penghu Ocean Resource Museum Introduction
The Penghu Marine Resources Museum, affiliated with the Penghu County Cultural Office, is divided into two halls: Hall A and Hall B. Hall A showcases the cultural history of Penghu's marine life, the evolutionary history of marine organisms, the coral resources of Penghu, the rock and mineral resources of Penghu, the geology and topography of the Penghu archipelago, as well as an exhibition about the intertidal zone and related videos. Hall B features traditional fishing gear, marine ranching, real-life scenes of fishing village life, the evolution of fishing boats, the future of underwater worlds, types of fisheries in Penghu, economically valuable aquatic organisms of Penghu, the distribution and fishing methods of economically important aquatic resources in the waters off Penghu, and underwater landscapes. The establishment of the Marine Resources Museum dates back to 1987 when it was commissioned by the National Cultural Association to be planned by Dr. Chang Kun-Hsiung from Academia Sinica, emphasizing the promotion of local marine resources and cultural characteristics. In 1994, with the assistance of Dr. Cheng Ming-Hsiu, the first phase of the project was completed. Subsequently, the second and third phases were carried out starting in 1995, and the museum officially opened in April 1997. The exhibits focus on the marine culture of Penghu, including the evolution of organisms, intertidal fishing practices, coastal fisheries, real-life scenes of fishing village life, ecological conservation, and sustainable resource use, guiding the public to explore and discover the diverse marine culture, ecological features, biodiversity, environmental changes, and sustainable use of marine resources in Penghu, in order to establish a foundation for marine cultural education and inspire the public to engage in a new lifestyle that conserves the ocean. 【Recommended Stay Time】1 hour.
