The predecessor of Penghu Confucian Temple was Wenshi Academy, which was the earliest cultural dissemination site in Penghu. It is located in the eastern outskirts of Magong City and was founded in the 31st year of the Qianlong reign by Hu Jianwei, the 18th Prefect of Penghu. Due to Penghu's abundance of Wenshi stone, which symbolizes the colorful talent nurtured by the academy, it was named "Wenshi Academy."
