The predecessor of Penghu Confucius Temple was Wenshih Academy, which was the earliest cultural dissemination site in Penghu. It is located in the eastern suburbs of Magong City and was established in the thirty-first year of the Qianlong period by Hu Jianwei, the eighteenth Magistrate of Penghu. Due to the abundant production of Wenshih in Penghu, symbolizing the academy’s nurturing of talents as vibrant as the colorful patterns of stone, it was named "Wenshih Academy."

Due to the abundance of Wenstone in Penghu, symbolizing the academy's cultivation of talented individuals like the colorful patterns of the stone, it was named "Wenstone Academy."
