The Penghu Confucius Temple was formerly known as the Wenshi Academy, which is the earliest cultural dissemination site in Penghu. It is located in the eastern suburbs of Magong City and was established in the 31st year of the Qianlong reign by Hu Jianwei, the 18th magistrate of Penghu. Due to the abundant production of Wenshi stones in Penghu, symbolizing the academy's nurturing of talents as colorful and varied as the patterns of the stones, it was named "Wenshi Academy."
