Fenggui Cave Introduction
Located at the southern tip of the Penghu Fenggui Peninsula, it was previously known as "Fengguiwei." This area is characterized by the well-developed basalt columnar joints unique to Penghu and has formed a narrow sea-eroded trough due to years of erosion by the waves. The bottom of the sea-eroded trough has also been eroded into sea caves, with a small hole at the top that leads into the cave following the joint seams. Every week, when the tide rises, seawater rushes into the sea caves through the trough, compressing the air inside, which often produces a "whoosh... whoosh..." sound. This sound resembles that made by bellows used in traditional fire-making, thus earning Fenggui Cave its most famous name, "Fenggui Listening to the Waves," the best spot in Penghu County to hear the sound of the sea! Coupled with the unique topography of the basalt, the view during dawn or sunset is quite magnificent and poetic. Next to Fenggui Cave, there is a charming two-story pavilion shaped like a shell, where visitors can climb up to admire the entire sea view and observe the spectacular basalt erosion landscape on the ground.
