Penghu County Fishery Seedling Propagation Center Introduction
The establishment originally began in 1969 as the "Penghu County Algal Seedling Cultivation Center," aiming to promote the cultivation of nori in Penghu County. In 1988, it was officially renamed the "Penghu County Aquatic Seedling Hatchery," and in 2011, the facility was renovated to build the "Seedling Production and Marine Ecology Education Building" along with surrounding projects. The first floor of the building is designated for seedling production, the second floor is the exhibition area, and the third floor serves as offices and a viewing platform for various marine fish, shrimp, crab, nori, and other shellfish breeding and release operations, with the goal of enhancing the county's aquatic resources and promoting the development of Penghu County's aquaculture industry. The second floor of the Penghu County Aquatic Seedling Hatchery features a 108-meter observation walkway that includes coral planting areas and aquarium display zones for public and student visits. Guided tours, along with the walkways' brief introductions, help attendees understand the seedling cultivation production and concepts of marine ecological conservation. Since the hatchery is located by the bay of the Nangan community in the west, there is a viewing platform outside the office area on the third floor for visiting tourists to rest and enjoy the view. The Penghu County Aquatic Seedling Hatchery manages various aquatic seedling hatching, cultivation, and release operations. Currently, the seedling cultivation includes: 1. Fish seedling cultivation: Rabbitfish, grouper, black seabream, seabass, and more. 2. Shellfish cultivation: Abalone, conch, and others. 3. Shrimp cultivation: Metapenaeus ensis. 4. Crab seedling cultivation: Portunus trituberculatus. 5. Large economic algae: Nori, Porphyra, and others. 6. Others: Turbo and coral. 【Recommended visit duration】 2 hours.
