Qingwan Cactus Park (Closed) Introduction
Qingwan Cactus Park was originally a military camp during the Japanese colonial period, covering an area of 18 hectares with a maximum elevation of 37.1 meters above sea level. The park is filled with cacti and features bunkers made from basalt used during the Japanese era, as well as unique columnar basalt formations. At the highest point, visitors can enjoy a sea view and, on clear days, catch glimpses of islands such as Tiger Well Islet and Tongpan Islet, all presenting a beautiful scenery. The park has been developed from the abandoned military camp, allowing for easy strolls along pathways where visitors can marvel at the magnificent basalt landscapes and various species of cacti. It features local plants such as cacti, cassava, and cosmos, as well as the basalt bunkers left over from the Japanese colonial period. The park also includes military relics from the Daxian artillery fort, an ostrich area, a cute animal zone, and a carousel, along with three flower stalls: Daxian, rock mass, and golden cactus, as well as a vision hall, sunset trail, camouflage bunkers, observatory tower, and a sea-view platform. Qingwan Cactus Park retains a variety of unique plants and has preserved the military facilities from the Japanese era, including barracks, observation platforms, artillery bunkers, ammunition depots, and drainage ditches. Here, visitors can appreciate rich natural ecology alongside historical relics. The park is abundant with the unique Penghu plant "cactus," which thrives despite the coastal wind and sunlight. The areas filled with intertwining cacti, the impressive basalt bunkers, and columnar basalt scenery create a charming landscape, decorated along the path with lovely cosmos flowers. Upon reaching the high point, the expansive sea view unfolds, and during sunset, the sea's surface sparkles with golden highlights, while the evening glow tinges the clouds in the sky, blending the ocean and sky into a spectacular sunset, evoking a sense of enchantment.
