Hsinchu Specialties Bureau Introduction
The Hsinchu Tobacco and Liquor Monopoly Bureau building, constructed in 1934, was known during the Japanese colonial period as the "Taiwan Governor-General's Monopoly Bureau Hsinchu Branch." Its predecessor was the "Taipei Monopoly Bureau Hsinchu Office," established in 1892. In 1924, it was renamed the "Taiwan Governor-General's Monopoly Bureau Hsinchu Office." After the new office building was constructed, it was promoted to a branch in 1936, becoming the direct control center for tobacco and liquor in the Hsinchu area. After World War II, it was renamed the "Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Monopoly Bureau Hsinchu Branch" in 1947.
