Hsinchu Bureau of Specialties Introduction
The Hsinchu Tobacco and Liquor Monopoly Bureau building, constructed in 1934, was known during the Japanese colonial period as the "Taiwan Governor-General's Monopoly Bureau Hsinchu Branch." Its predecessor was the "Taipei Monopoly Bureau Hsinchu Station," established in 1892, which was renamed the "Taiwan Governor-General's Monopoly Bureau Hsinchu Station" in 1924. After the new office building was completed, it was upgraded to a branch in 1936, becoming the direct management center for tobacco and liquor in the Hsinchu area. After World War II, it was renamed the "Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Monopoly Bureau Hsinchu Branch" in 1947.
