The predecessor was the earliest thermal power plant in Chiayi City and the first steel-reinforced concrete (SRC) structure in Chiayi City, completed in 1913. It was one of the early applications of new architectural technology in Taiwan, featuring a rare high and wide-span design. Currently, this historical building has been renovated and repurposed as a space for wood sculpture exhibitions.
