Daxi Zuo Water Environment Education Park Introduction
Daqi Cuo Water Environment Education Park was originally a vacant lot next to the Zhiwei Temple in Daqi Village. Through the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program initiated by the Executive Yuan, it has been transformed into a site for water quality improvement and waterfront environment restoration projects. This park not only provides environmental education but also plays a significant role in improving water quality and nurturing ecosystems. Covering an area of 0.65 hectares, the park features an underground gravel aeration oxidation tank with a daily treatment capacity of 3,000 tons, which utilizes naturally occurring microorganisms in water to decompose pollutants. After treatment, domestic wastewater can reduce biochemical oxygen demand by 66.1%, suspend solids by 79%, and ammonia nitrogen by 85%. This natural purification method differs from traditional sewage treatment plants that rely on coagulation and sedimentation and does not require the addition of chemicals, making it extremely environmentally friendly. Daqi Cuo Water Environment Education Park uses natural purification methods to improve water quality, creating an environmental experience teaching program that reflects local cultural and historical characteristics, water purification, and ecological construction. This promotes increased public awareness, ethics, and responsibility towards the environment, ultimately contributing to the development of inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable urban areas. The park also offers various sports facilities, including basketball, badminton, and tennis courts, as well as children's playgrounds, environmental education classrooms, constructed wetlands, and bird-watching pavilions. It is the first multifunctional facility in Chiayi City that combines water quality purification, ecological conservation, environmental education, and recreational activities. Moreover, the park is located along the bicycle route leading to the flower fields in the city center, making it a suitable stop for visitors.
