Daxi Cuo Water Environment Education Park Introduction
Daqizuo Water Environment Education Park was originally a wasteland next to Ziwei Temple in Daqi Village. Through the Executive Yuan's Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program - Water Environment Improvement Project, it has been transformed to provide environmental education and also to improve water quality and conserve ecology. The park covers an area of 0.65 hectares and features a subsurface gravel contact aeration oxidation tank with a daily treatment capacity of 3,000 tons. It employs naturally occurring microorganisms in the water to decompose pollutants. After treatment, household wastewater can reduce biochemical oxygen demand by 66.1%, suspended solids by 79%, and ammonia nitrogen by 85%. This natural purification method differs from traditional wastewater treatment plants that use coagulation and sedimentation, as it does not require chemical agents, making it extremely environmentally friendly. Daqizuo Water Environment Education Park applies natural purification methods to improve water quality while developing environmentally experiential education that reflects local cultural and historical characteristics, purifies water, and creates ecology. This promotes public awareness, ethics, and responsibility toward the environment, thereby constructing an inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable city. The park is equipped with sports facilities including basketball, badminton, and tennis courts, as well as children's play equipment, environmental education classrooms, constructed wetlands, and birdwatching pavilions. It is the first multifunctional space in Chiayi City that combines water quality purification, ecological conservation, environmental education, and recreational activities, located along the cycling route leading to the flower fields, making it an ideal stop for visitors.
