Daxi Chuo Water Environment Education Park Introduction
Daqixu Water Environment Education Park was originally a wasteland beside the Zhiwei Temple in Daqi Village. Through the Executive Yuan's Forward-looking Infrastructure Program - Water Environment Improvement Project, the water quality improvement and waterfront environmental reconstruction project has not only provided environmental education but also improved water quality and ecological conservation. The park covers an area of 0.65 hectares and features an underground aerated grit chamber with a daily processing capacity of 3,000 tons. It utilizes naturally occurring microorganisms in the water to decompose pollutants. After treatment, domestic sewage can reduce biochemical oxygen demand by 66.1%, suspended solids by 79%, and ammonia nitrogen by 85%. This natural purification method differs from traditional sewage treatment plants that use coagulation and sedimentation, requiring no chemical additives, making it extremely environmentally friendly. Daqixu Water Environment Education Park improves water quality using natural purification methods and develops environmental experiential education with local cultural and historical characteristics, water quality purification, and ecological construction, promoting public awareness, ethics, and responsibility for the environment, thus constructing an inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable city. The park includes sports facilities such as basketball, badminton, and tennis courts, as well as children's playground equipment, an environmental education classroom, artificial wetlands, and bird-watching pavilions. It is the first multifunctional space in Chiayi City that integrates water quality purification, ecological conservation, environmental education, and recreational activities. Additionally, the park is located along the bike path leading to the flower sea in the city, making it suitable for a visit and stay.
