Shifen Waterfall Park Introduction
The Shifen Waterfall Park, located near the Old Street, is situated along the main stream of the Keelung River. Due to the erosion of the river, the area has formed a fault topography with unique rock formations, resulting in many waterfalls and geological wonders, among which the majestic Shifen Waterfall is the most famous. Starting from the Shifen Visitor Center and walking along the Siguantan Bridge, visitors can also enjoy the geological landscape of the pot holes at Siguantan and the beauty of the Eyeglass Cave Waterfall! The Shifen Waterfall, which meets the Rainbow Pool, is a curtain-type waterfall. The layers of rocks on either side of the waterfall run in the opposite direction to the water flow, a feature called reverse stratification in geography. It is often referred to as the Niagara Falls of Taiwan due to its resemblance to the scenery of Niagara Falls in North America. The water pool beneath the waterfall is very deep, and as the magnificent river rushes down, it creates splashes. When sunlight shines on the misty water vapor, a rainbow can be seen hanging over the waterfall or the water pool, earning it the beautiful name "Rainbow Pool." There are several viewing platforms set up near the Shifen Waterfall, allowing travelers to appreciate the waterfall's wonders from various angles. Walking along the trails, visitors can see the emerald water pool at the top of the waterfall and experience the immense force of the river cascading down, fully absorbing the negative ions. Moving to the lower area offers a full view of the entire waterfall, making it an excellent observation point and a popular spot for many travelers to take photos as a memento.
