Wulai Atayal Museum Introduction
Wulai was historically the living settlement of the Atayal people, who are the true inhabitants of Wulai. The establishment of the Atayal Museum in the only mountainous area of New Taipei City, Wulai, is particularly significant. The carefully curated exhibitions provide an overview of the Atayal people's way of life and cultural philosophy, covering aspects such as food, clothing, and housing. The museum introduces the history and living conditions of the Atayal people. On the first floor, visitors can see artifacts related to the origins, migrations, and hunting practices of the Atayal, as well as the natural ecology of the Wulai area. The second floor features an introduction to the traditional practices of facial tattooing, which holds great importance in Atayal culture; only those with hunting and weaving skills can qualify for facial tattoos and marriage. The third floor showcases the daily utensils and traditional crafts of the Atayal people. On weekends, visitors can enjoy performances of songs and dances by the local Atayal community, and participate in DIY activities such as making glass bead strings, Atayal weaving, and bracelet crafting.
