Wulai Atayal Museum Introduction
Wulai was historically the living settlement of the Atayal people, who are the true natives of Wulai. The establishment of the Atayal Museum in Wulai, the only mountainous area in New Taipei City, holds significant meaning. The carefully curated exhibitions present a comprehensive view of the Atayal people's lifestyle and cultural philosophy, including aspects of food, clothing, and housing. The Atayal Museum introduces the history and living conditions of the Atayal people. The first floor displays artifacts related to the origins, migration, and hunting practices of the Atayal, as well as the natural ecology of the Wulai area. The second floor features an introduction to the traditional practice of tattooing, which is a crucial ritual in Atayal culture. Only men and women who possess hunting and weaving skills are eligible to be tattooed and qualify for marriage. The third floor exhibits the daily utensils and traditional crafts of the Atayal people. On weekends, visitors can enjoy performances of songs and dances by the local Atayal community, and participate in DIY courses such as glass bead making, Atayal weaving, and bracelet crafting.
