Wulai Atayal Museum Introduction
Wulai was historically the living settlement of the Atayal people, who are the true inhabitants of Wulai. The establishment of the Atayal Cultural Museum in Wulai, the only mountainous area in New Taipei City, is of great significance. The meticulously curated exhibitions showcase the lifestyle and cultural philosophy of the Atayal people, including their food, clothing, and housing. The Atayal Cultural Museum serves to introduce the history and living conditions of the Atayal people. The first floor displays artifacts related to the origins, migrations, and hunting practices of the Atayal, as well as the natural ecology of the Wulai area. The second floor features information about the traditional practice of facial tattooing, which is a crucial ritual in Atayal culture; only those who possess hunting and weaving skills are qualified for tattooing and marriage eligibility. The third floor exhibits the daily utensils and traditional crafts of the Atayal people. On holidays, visitors can enjoy performances of local Atayal songs and dances, and participate in DIY courses such as glass bead stringing, Atayal weaving, and bracelet making.
