Wulai Scenic Area Introduction
In early spring, the Wulai Scenic Area, stretching from Huan Mountain Road all the way to the Wulai Waterfall area, showcases the blooming of mountain cherry blossoms from the Yunxian Cable Car Station to the vicinity of Waterfall Park, offering a breathtaking view. After the Lunar New Year each year, visitors can be seen going up the mountain to enjoy cherry blossom viewing and hot springs, capturing the beauty of the blossoms around Huan Mountain Road, Waterfall Park, Xiluohan Road, and County Road 107. The first to bloom are the red cherry blossoms, followed by the pinkish-white Yoshino cherry blossoms, and then the romantic pale purple Yaezakura blossoms, creating a stunning spectacle. The Wulai mountain cherry, also known as the red blossom cherry, blooms between January and March each year, characterized as one of the deepest colored and most vibrant types of cherry blossoms. When they are in bloom, the trees are adorned with vibrant red flowers, painting the entire lush valley, making it one of the best places for cherry blossom viewing in northern Taiwan. From November to February each year, visitors to the Wulai valley banks may also hear the songs of the rainbow bird during courtship, and observe unique stream birds such as the violet ground thrush, the lead-colored ground thrush, and the kingfisher, as well as the majestic black kite soaring over the canyon. Other notable species include the bamboo chicken, the eye-striped thrush, the Taiwan blue magpie, the tree magpie, the great-billed crow, the grey wagtail, the little bend beak, the little swift, the hairy-footed swift, and the little tail, making it a distinctive natural classroom.
