Wulai Scenic Area Introduction
In early spring, from the Circular Mountain Road all the way to the Wulai Waterfall area in the Wulai Scenic Area, the branches of mountain cherry blossoms bloom, creating a breathtaking view. Every year after the Lunar New Year, visitors can be seen going up the mountain to enjoy cherry blossom viewing and hot springs, capturing the blooming scenery along Circular Mountain Road, Waterfall Park, Xiluowan Road, and County Highway 107. The first to bloom are the紅櫻 (Fuji cherry), followed by the pale pink Yoshino cherry, and then the romantically light purple Yaezakura blossoms, creating a stunning spectacle. The Wulai mountain cherry, also known as the red cherry blossom, blooms from January to March each year and is one of the darkest and most vibrant flower species among cherry blossoms. When in bloom, the trees are adorned with vibrant red blossoms, painting the entire green valley, making it the best cherry blossom viewing place in northern Taiwan. From November each year to February of the following year, visitors to the banks of the Wulai River Valley may also have the chance to hear the songs of the colorful birds courting, see the purple thrush, slate-colored thrush, kingfisher, and other uniquely featured stream birds, as well as the soaring raptors like the crested serpent eagle above the canyon. Additionally, there are bamboo partridges, eye-browed thrushes, Taiwan blue magpies, tree pies, great-billed crows, gray wagtails, little bent-billed warblers, little swifts, and many more, making it a uniquely characteristic natural classroom.
