Wulai Scenic Area Introduction
In early spring, the Wulai Scenic Area, from Huanshan Road to the Wulai Waterfall region, as well as the area behind the Yunshan Cable Car Station to the Waterfall Park, is adorned with blooming mountain cherry blossoms, creating a captivating view. Every year after the Lunar New Year, tourists can be seen heading up the mountains to enjoy the cherry blossoms and hot springs, capturing the beautiful scenes of cherry blossoms blooming along Huanshan Road, Waterfall Park, Xiluoan Road, and County Road 107. The earliest to bloom is the紅櫻 (prunus serrulata), followed by the pale pink Yoshino cherry and the romantically light purple Yaezakura, which bloom successively in stunning beauty. The Wulai mountain cherry, also known as the紅櫻 (prunus campanulata), blooms from January to March each year and is the darkest and most vibrant of the cherry blossom varieties. During its blooming season, the trees are adorned with bright red flowers, coloring the lush green valley, making it the best cherry blossom viewing destination in northern Taiwan. From November to February each year, at the banks of the Wulai Creek, there is also a chance to hear the woodpeckers singing courtship songs, and see the distinctive creek birds such as the purple thrush, the plumb-bird nightingale, the kingfisher, as well as the soaring raptors like the majestic crowned eagle in the canyon. Additionally, there are bamboo chickens, eye-browed thrushes, Taiwan blue magpies, tree magpies, great-billed crow, gray wagtails, little bent-billed swifts, and fluttering swifts, making it a remarkable natural classroom.
