Wulai Scenic Area Introduction
In early spring, from the Mountain Ring Road to the Wulai Waterfall area within the Wulai Scenic Area, mountain cherry blossoms are in full bloom, captivating everyone. Every year after the Lunar New Year, visitors can be seen going up the mountain to admire the cherry blossoms and enjoy hot springs along the Mountain Ring Road, Waterfall Park, Xiluoan Road, and County Road 107, capturing the beautiful sight of the blossoms. The first to bloom is the red cherry, followed by the pink-tinged white Yoshino cherry, and then the romantically pale purple Yaezakura, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Wulai mountain cherry, also known as Taiwanese red cherry, blooms from January to March each year and is one of the most vibrant varieties of cherry blossoms. During the blooming season, the trees are adorned with colorful bright red flowers, painting the entire lush valley, making it the best cherry blossom viewing location in northern Taiwan. From November to February each year, visitors along the banks of the Wulai River Valley may also hear the calls of the Formosan Hill Myna, observe unique stream birds such as the Taiwan Blue Magpie, Formosan Whistling Thrush, and kingfisher, as well as the majestic Migratory Osprey soaring in the gorge. Other birds spotted include the bamboo chicken, eye-browed Thrush, Taiwan Blue Magpie, tree magpie, Taiwan crow, gray wagtail, little bent-billed bird, little swift, hairy-footed swallow, and little round-tail, making it a truly remarkable natural classroom.
