Wulai Scenic Train Introduction
The Wulai Trolley, located in Wulai District, New Taipei City, was initially used for transporting timber. Due to the demand from tourists stemming from the development of the Wulai Waterfall for sightseeing, passenger services officially began in 1963, initially pushed by human power. To accommodate the gradually increasing number of visitors, motorization was implemented in 1974, using a diesel engine to drive the trolley. In 1987, a tunnel was excavated at the waterfall station to replace the original turntable, which is still in use today. After the logging industry disappeared, the trolley was used as a means of transporting tourists, transforming into a charming tourist trolley in 1963. Although the trolley's design is not very luxurious, it is surprisingly fast; it travels approximately 1.6 kilometers from the departure station to the waterfall station in a flash, with open windows allowing passengers to enjoy the lush greenery along the way. Beside the trolley tracks is the Lover's Path, built along the Nanshi River Valley. It is recommended to take the trolley uphill and walk down the Lover's Path back to the Viewing Bridge. The Lover's Path, flanked by mountain walls and streams, allows visitors to engage in light exercise while breathing fresh air and enjoying negative ions, making for a very relaxing experience.
