Wulai Scenic Park Cable Car Introduction
The Wulai Cable Car, located in the Wulai District of New Taipei City, was initially used for transporting timber. Due to the growing tourist demand following the development of the Wulai Waterfall, passenger service officially began in 1963 with manual pushing. To accommodate the increasing number of visitors, motorization was implemented in 1974, utilizing a diesel engine to power the cable car. In 1987, a tunnel was excavated at the waterfall station to replace the original turntable, a system still in use today. After the logging industry disappeared, the cable car was repurposed for transporting tourists. It only transitioned to a tourist attraction in 1963 as a charming cable car. Although the design of the cable car is not very luxurious, it should not be underestimated; it moves fairly quickly, covering approximately 1.6 kilometers from the departure station to the waterfall station in a flash, allowing passengers to enjoy the lush green scenery through the open windows along the way. Next to the cable car tracks is the Lovers' Trail, built alongside the Nanshi Creek Valley. It is recommended to take the cable car uphill and walk down the Lovers' Trail back to the viewing bridge. The trail, bordered by mountains on one side and a stream on the other, offers visitors a chance for light exercise while breathing fresh air and enjoying negative ions, making for a very relaxing experience.
