Wulai Scenic Car Introduction
The Wulai Scenic Train, located in the Wulai District of New Taipei City, initially served to transport timber. Due to the growing demand from tourists visiting Wulai Waterfall, it officially began carrying passengers in 1963, initially using manual push carts. To accommodate the increasing number of visitors, motorization was implemented in 1974, with the carts being powered by diesel engines. In 1987, a tunnel was excavated at the waterfall station, replacing the original circular turntable, and this system has been in use ever since. After the logging industry disappeared, the carts were repurposed as a means of transporting tourists. It was in 1963 that the charming carts were transformed into tourist vehicles. Although the design of the carts is not luxurious, they should not be underestimated; they actually travel quite fast, covering the approximately 1.6 kilometers from the departure station to the waterfall station in a flash, allowing passengers to enjoy the lush forest scenery through the open windows. Alongside the train tracks, the Lover's Trail is built along the banks of the Nanshi River Valley. It is advisable to ride the train uphill and then walk down the Lover's Trail back to the Viewing Bridge. The trail, flanked by cliffs on one side and a stream on the other, provides visitors with a moderate exercise option, allowing them to breathe fresh air and enjoy the negative ions, making for a very relaxing experience.
