Wulai Scenic Train Introduction
Located in the Wulai District of New Taipei City, the Wulai Scenic Train initially served to transport timber. Due to the increasing demand from tourists visiting the Wulai Waterfall, passenger service officially began in 1963, initially operated by hand-pushed carts. To accommodate the growing number of visitors, motorization was implemented in 1974, using diesel engines to power the carts. In 1987, a tunnel was excavated at the Waterfall Station to replace the original turntable, which is still in use today. After the logging industry disappeared, the carts were repurposed for transporting tourists. It was not until 1963 that they were converted to cute tourist carts. Although the design of the carts is not very luxurious, don't underestimate them; they are quite fast, covering about 1.6 kilometers from the departure station to the waterfall station in a flash, allowing passengers to enjoy the lush greenery through the open windows along the way. Next to the train tracks is the Lover's Path, built along the Nanshi River Valley. It is recommended to take the train uphill and walk down the Lover's Path back to the Viewing Bridge. The path, with mountains on one side and a flowing river on the other, offers a gentle exercise opportunity for tourists to breathe fresh air and enjoy negative ions, making it a very relaxing experience.
