Yehliu Fishing Port Introduction
Yehliu Fishing Port is located in Yehliu Village, Wanli District, New Taipei City. It was built using the natural bay on the western side of Yehliu Peninsula. During the Japanese colonial period, a 100-meter breakwater and a simple dock for small boats were already constructed. After the recovery of Taiwan, government officials surveyed the area and proposed a construction plan. Yehliu Fishing Port gradually expanded, and the opening of the No. 8 interchange of the Zhongshan Freeway made it possible for local seafood products to bypass downtown Keelung and access the highway directly, substantially increasing the shipping range and enhancing the fishing port's importance in northern Taiwan's fisheries. In recent years, the construction of the eastern and western breakwaters has greatly improved the tranquility of the port area, though this only applies to the inner anchorage. During typhoon seasons, when the inner anchorage becomes insufficient, local fishing boats still need to seek shelter in Keelung and the nearby Jinshan Fishing Port. Visitors can experience the fishing port charm of the small town, savor fresh seafood, and enjoy the beautiful sight of fishing boats dotting the waters at night. Walking along Yehliu Street, one can feel the distinct atmosphere of the fishing port, with the sea breeze gently blowing and a salty sea scent in the air. If you walk up from Renwu Temple next to Yehliu Elementary School, the entire view of Yehliu Fishing Port unfolds before you, with fishing boats creating a picturesque scene at night.
