Shiding Hundred-Year Stone House Introduction
Shiding East Street, located in New Taipei City, is a rare "no-sunny street" in Taiwan. The houses along the Wutuku Stream are built over the suspended riverbed, primarily constructed from local river stones. Shiding West Street is the original area of development, but currently, East Street has a larger population than West Street, gradually replacing the once-prosperous West Street. It features unique stilted buildings, the "no-sunny street," and century-old stone houses. The century-old stone house, built from stones, is a rare local architectural gem that reflects a century's worth of history. The stone house refers to two adjacent shops in East Street, a Chinese medicine store and a grocery store, where the steps and walls are chiselled from stone. The hall is furnished with traditional Chinese medicine cabinets, stone mortars, and hand scales, remnants left by ancestors. Climbing the stone steps leads to a backyard adorned with stone tables and chairs covered in moss, where faint traces of a Buddha statue can be seen on the stone walls, allowing you to experience the feeling of life from the past.
