Shiding Century-old Stone House Introduction
Shide Dong Street, located in New Taipei City, is one of the few "sky streets" in Taiwan. The houses along the Wu Tu Ku Stream are built over suspended riverbeds, primarily constructed with local river stones. While Shide West Street was the original area of development, East Street now has a larger population and is gradually replacing the former prosperity of West Street. It features unique stilt houses, the sky street, and century-old stone houses. The century-old stone houses, made of stone, are rare local architectural landmarks that exhibit a sense of history spanning over a hundred years. The stone houses refer to the two connected shops in East Street, a Chinese medicine shop and a grocery store, with steps and walls made of hewn stone. Inside the hall, you can find traditional medicine cabinets, stone mortars, hand scales, and other artifacts left by ancestors. Climbing the stone steps leads to a back garden where stone tables and chairs are covered with moss. On the stone walls, faint traces of Buddhist statues can still be seen, allowing you to experience a glimpse of the lives of those who lived there in the past.
