Shiding Century-old Stone House Introduction
Shiding East Street, located in New Taipei City, is a rare example of a "Skyless Street" in Taiwan. The houses along the Wutuku Creek have been constructed above the suspended riverbed, primarily using local creek stones. Shiding West Street was the original area of development, but currently, East Street has a larger population, gradually replacing the former bustling West Street. This area features unique stilt houses, the Skyless Street, and century-old stone houses. The century-old stone houses, made of stone, are a rare local architectural feature that showcases a sense of history spanning a hundred years. The stone houses refer to the connected traditional Chinese medicine shop and grocery store on East Street, with stair walls carved from stone. Inside, there are items left behind by ancestors, such as traditional medicine cabinets, stone mortars, and hand scales. Ascending the stone steps leads to a back garden, where stone tables and chairs are covered in moss, and faint traces of Buddha statues can still be seen on the stone walls, allowing you to experience what life was like for previous generations.
