Pingxi Station Introduction
Pingxi Station is located in the Lingjiao Village of Pingxi District and is a station on the Pingxi Line of Taiwan Railways. Originally named "Taiyang Mining Company Shidi Line," it was initially used as a dedicated railway for coal transportation. However, as coal mines gradually closed, the local population dwindled, and the Pingxi Line nearly faced the fate of being abolished. After active efforts from local residents, it was preserved and has now gradually seen a resurgence in visitors due to the sky lantern activities. Although Pingxi Station is a simple station, it has a long history and beautiful scenery. The tranquil mountain town of Pingxi is perfect for listening to the sound of trains and strolling along the stream paths to enjoy the beauty of nature. In earlier years, it was called "Shidi Station." If you head towards Jing Tong Station, you'll cross a bridge that spans the San Keng Creek, from which you can overlook the Pingxi and Shidi settlements. Right outside the station is Zhonghua Street; walking down the gentle slope will lead you to the intersection with Pingxi Street, marking the old street area. The station is geographically situated between Pingxi and Lingjiao, elevated above with the Keelung River below. The old tree at the entrance is filled with foraging birds, and if you're lucky, you might see them dive gracefully while hunting.
