Pingxi Station Introduction
Pingxi Station is located in the Lingjiao Village of Pingxi District and is a station on the Pingxi Line of Taiwan Railways. Originally named "Taiyang Mining Co., Ltd. Shitiao Line," it was initially built as a dedicated railway for transporting coal. However, as coal mines closed gradually, the local population began to decline, and the Pingxi Line nearly faced abandonment. Thanks to the efforts of local residents, the line was preserved and has since experienced a resurgence in visitors due to the popular sky lantern activities. Though Pingxi Station is a simple station, its rich history and beautiful scenery make it an ideal spot to listen to the sound of trains while enjoying nature along the creek. In earlier years, it was known as "Shitiao Station." If traveling towards JingTong Station, one passes over an iron bridge that spans the Sankeng Creek, where one can look down to see the Pingxi and Shitiao settlements. At the station's exit is Zhonghua Street, which slopes down and intersects with Pingxi Street; this area is known as the old street. The station is situated between Pingxi and Lingjiao, perched above the Keelung River. The old trees at the entrance are filled with foraging birds, and if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of them diving gracefully as they hunt for food.
