Pingxi Station Introduction
Pingxi Station is located in the Lingjiao Li of Pingxi District and is a station on the Pingxi Line of Taiwan Railways. Originally named "Taiyin Mining Co. Stone Bottom Line," it was initially used as a dedicated railway for coal transportation. As coal mines gradually closed, the local population dwindled, and the Pingxi Line faced the threat of abandonment. However, with the efforts of local residents, it was preserved and has gradually regained visitors due to the sky lantern activities. Although Pingxi Station is a simple station, it has a long history and beautiful scenery. The tranquil mountain town of Pingxi is perfect for listening to the sounds of trains passing by and strolling along the stream paths to enjoy the beauty of nature. In earlier years, it was referred to as "Shidiyi." If you head toward Jingtong Station, you will pass over an iron bridge that spans the Sankeng River, where you can look down upon the Pingxi and Shidi settlements. Just outside the station is Zhonghua Street; walking down the gentle slope and intersecting with Pingxi Street, this area constitutes the old street. The station is situated between Pingxi and Lingjiao, overlooking the Keelung River. Old trees at the entrance are filled with foraging birds, and on lucky days, you might witness their agile diving hunting actions.
