Pingxi Station Introduction
Pingxi Station is located in Lingjiao Village of the Pingxi District and is a station on the Pingxi Line of Taiwan Railways. Originally named "Taiyang Mining Co. Ltd. Shidi Line," it was initially used as a dedicated railway for coal transportation. However, as coal mines gradually closed, the local population started to decline, and the Pingxi Line faced the risk of being discontinued. Thanks to the efforts of local individuals, the line was preserved and has gradually attracted visitors due to the sky lantern activities. Although Pingxi Station is a simple station, its long history and beautiful scenery make the tranquil Pingxi Mountain Town an ideal place to listen to the sound of trains and stroll along riverside paths to enjoy the beauty of nature. In earlier years, it was called "Shidi Station." If you head toward Jing Tong Station, you will pass over an iron bridge that spans the Sankeng Creek, providing a view of Pingxi and Shidi settlements below. Right outside the station is Zhonghua Street; if you walk down the gentle slope, you will reach the intersection with Pingxi Street, an area that constitutes the old street. The station is situated between Pingxi and Lingjiao, perched above the Keelung River. Nearby, old trees are often filled with foraging birds, and on lucky days, you might even catch sight of them diving gracefully in search of food.
