Bihua Cloth Street (Sanchong Fabric Museum Area) Introduction
During the Qing Dynasty's Xianfeng period, the Dadaocheng commercial area along the Tamsui River flourished, simultaneously promoting the development of San Chongpu. San Chongpu refers to today’s San Chong District and Luzhou District in New Taipei City. San Chong was historically part of Luzhou Township until it was officially separated in 1947. Due to its convenient geographical location and close proximity to Taipei City, many migrants from other regions choose to rent or buy houses here, making San Chong the area with the highest immigrant population around Taipei. During the domestic economic boom, the phrase "the living room is a factory" characterized San Chong, with many families operating factories at home. The large scale of production supported the entire mechanical parts industry across Taiwan. When unfamiliar with San Chong, one might find it hectic; however, upon acquaintance, it reveals a sense of order, and once familiar, it feels incredibly warm. Bihua Cloth Street in San Chong was originally a cloth wholesale site, stemming from the concept of thrift. It maximized the value of scrap fabric through sorting and creative utilization, creating a vibrant cloth street filled with fresh experiences waiting for you to explore!
