Tamkang University Maritime Museum Introduction
Tamkang University Maritime Museum is located on the campus of Tamkang University. It is a ship-shaped building covering an area of 2,134 square meters and consists of five floors. The museum showcases a variety of ship models from both ancient and modern times, with nearly sixty models representing vessels from the 15th to the 17th centuries during the Age of Discovery, as well as future superconductor electromagnetic propulsion ships. All the ship models in the museum are handcrafted and scaled down according to the original ship structures. Originally established as the Business Ship School of Tamkang University, it was converted into the current Maritime Museum in 1990 and opened to the public, allowing visitors to enjoy free admission. It is the first maritime museum in the country. Among the ship models on display are the Santa Maria, Zheng He’s treasure ship, the Titanic, and the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier. The museum also features a simulated engine room and bridge, as well as a globe with a surface area of 3,200 square inches, containing 20,000 place names, providing rich maritime information.
