Tamkang University Maritime Museum Introduction
Tamkang University Maritime Museum is located within the Tamkang University campus. It features a ship-shaped building covering 2,134 square meters and stands five stories tall. The museum showcases a variety of ship models from around the world, spanning from the 15th to the 17th centuries during the Age of Discovery to future superconducting electromagnetic propulsion vessels, with nearly sixty models in total. All of the ship models are handmade and scaled down according to the original ship structures. Initially established as the Merchant Marine Institute of Tamkang University, it was transformed into the current Maritime Museum in 1990 and opened to the public, allowing visitors to enjoy free admission. This is the first maritime museum in Taiwan. The displayed ship models include the Saint Mary, Zheng He's treasure ship, the Titanic, and the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier. The museum also features a simulated engine room and bridge, as well as a globe covering 3,200 square inches with 20,000 place names, providing abundant maritime information.
