Tamkang University Maritime Museum Introduction
The Tamkang University Maritime Museum is located on the Tamkang University campus. It features a ship-shaped building with an area of 2,134 square meters and five stories. The museum showcases various ship models from both ancient and modern times, including nearly sixty ship models from the Age of Discovery in the 15th to 17th centuries to future superconducting electromagnetic propulsion vessels. All ship models in the museum are handcrafted and scaled down according to the original ship structures. Initially, it was the Maritime Academy of Tamkang University, and in 1990, it was transformed into the current Maritime Museum and opened to the public for free visits, making it the first maritime museum in the country. Among the displayed ship models are the Santa Maria, Zheng He’s treasure ship, Titanic, and USS Nimitz aircraft carrier. The museum also features a simulated engine room and bridge, as well as a globe with a surface area of 3,200 square inches and 20,000 place names, providing rich maritime information.
