San Hsieh Cheng Bakery was established in 1935, originally founded by the current owner's grandfather, who taught the second and third generations of three brothers how to make Quanzhou pastries. The name "San Hsieh Cheng" signifies the hope that the three brothers can work together harmoniously in managing the business. In its early days, the bakery started with the production of wedding pastries and later learned the making of British fruit pies from the chef of the British consulate, resulting in a unique fusion of traditional and Western flavors in their pastries. The bakery has set up a "Pastry Museum," which documents the unique culture of local Chinese-Western fusion pastry shops, displaying vintage mold tools used in pastry making, and has become an important cultural attraction in Tamsui.
