Tamsui Golden Coast Introduction
The Golden Waterfront Old Street section, extending from Tamsui and Zhongzheng Temple to the small fishing port, has officially opened to the public. The overall planning introduces point-like spaces along the route, including tree-shaded paths, riverside areas, fishing spaces, a waterside stage, café seating, and tidal viewing areas. Strolling along the banks of the Tamsui River, you can see the beautifully renovated riverside shopping streets filled with various interesting shops. Enjoying a cup of coffee at a European-style café by the river while gazing at Guanyin Mountain and the outlet across the river offers a broad and refreshing view. By taking a fast boat to the Fisherman’s Wharf, you can observe the unique blend of Eastern and Western influences along the coast, enhanced by the resurgence of Tamsui's historical landmarks, making the water town charm quite impressive. The well-known Tamsui Riverfront actually features an elegantly named bicycle path called "Golden Waterfront," starting from the entrance of the Zhonggang River near Guandu Temple and running along the riverbanks to Tamsui Old Street. This bike path is approximately 10 kilometers long, very smooth and easy to ride, making it perfect for families to observe egrets and fiddler crabs while enjoying the ride. Reaching the famous "Tamsui Old Street," you'll find bustling shops lining both sides of the road, including traditional rice shops, cake stores, fabric stores, grocery stores, and modern trendy clothing and toy shops, forming a unique cultural blend of the old and the new. The old street is a treasure trove for food and antiques, offering many must-try local specialties like freshly baked cakes, A-gei, grilled squid, A-Po's iron eggs, fish snacks, giant ice cream, and fish balls, making it a very popular destination that visitors never tire of exploring. The old street is divided into the outer section along the Tamsui River (Golden Waterfront Trail) and the inner old street.
