Tamsui Golden Coast Introduction
The Golden Waterside Old Street section, which runs from Tamsui and Zhongzheng Temple to the small fishing port, has officially opened to the public. The overall planning incorporates point-like spatial arrangements along the route, including tree-shaded walkways, waterside areas, fishing spaces, a water stage, coffee seating, and tide-watching bays. Strolling along the Tamsui River, visitors can see the riverside commercial area revitalized with a variety of interesting shops lining the streets. Sitting in a European-style café by the river with a cup of coffee, one can gaze at the Guanyin Mountain and the estuary across the river, enjoying the expansive view that brings a sense of relaxation. If you take a fast boat to Fisherman’s Wharf, you’ll see the unique blend of Eastern and Western influences along the coast, coupled with the revival of Tamsui's historical sites, making the waterside charm truly unforgettable. The well-known Tamsui Riverbank actually hosts a beautifully maintained bike path called the "Golden Waterside," which starts from the entrance of the Zhonggang River near Guandu Temple and follows the riverbank to Tamsui Old Street. This bike path is approximately 10 kilometers long, very smooth and suitable for riding, making it perfect for families to observe wildlife such as egrets and fiddler crabs while enjoying the ride. Riding to the famous "Tamsui Old Street," visitors will find vibrant shops on both sides of the street, featuring traditional businesses such as rice shops, bakeries, fabric stores, and grocery stores, as well as modern trendy clothing and toy shops, creating a unique market culture that blends the old and the new. On the Old Street, one can hunt for treasures, taste delicious foods, and visit historical sites, making it an essential spot for tourists, with endless enjoyable activities. The Old Street is divided into the outer section along the Tamsui River (Golden Waterside Trail) and the inner Old Street. Famous local specialties include freshly baked traditional cakes, Ah-gei (stuffed tofu), grilled squid, grandmother’s iron eggs, fish crackers, gigantic ice cream, and fish balls, all of which are must-try delicacies when visiting the Old Street.
