Guihou Fishing Port Introduction
Guihou was originally a simple and quiet fishing village in Wanli District, New Taipei City, where most residents made a living from fishing. The fishermen would unload their catch directly next to the fishing port for auction, gradually turning Guihou Fishing Port into a fish market. The buildings here are beautifully painted, and the sea is very clear and blue. The fresh seafood products are mainly operated by local fishermen from Wanli, who grow and sell their products, offering good quality at low prices, with a cooking service available. Wanli crab is a seafood marketing brand in Taiwan, referring to the crabs caught from Wanli District in New Taipei City, which accounts for more than 80% of Taiwan's crab catch. Therefore, in August 2012, the New Taipei City Government established the "Wanli Crab" brand. Wanli crab includes three major types of crabs: flower crabs (portunus sanguinolentus), three-dot crabs (scylla paramamosain), and stone crabs (menippe mercenaria). The fishermen in Wanli have established the custom of using fluorescent green three-strand ropes to bind the crabs, which has become a notable feature of Wanli crab. Every autumn from September to November, the fishermen's market near Guihou Fishing Port attracts crowds eager to purchase delicious Wanli crabs. Today, Guihou Fishing Port has gained fame due to Wanli crab, becoming one of the liveliest fishing ports on the northern coast. A must-try classic dish here is the steamed Wanli crab, which involves no seasoning, allowing the freshness of the sea to be preserved in the crab meat, making it a supreme taste that can be savored through simple steaming!
