Treasure Forest Abandoned Furniture Regeneration Center Introduction
Baozhilin is located at No. 439, Heshun Road, Beitun District, Taichung City. It is a resource recycling and reutilization park established by the Taichung City Environmental Protection Bureau. Abandoned furniture discarded by citizens, including tables, chairs, beds, sofas, and cabinets of various sizes, can be restored and organized at Baozhilin, sold to the public at about 40% to 60% of the market price. This initiative embodies the principles of sustainable recycling and reusing resources while promoting values of cherishing resources and protecting the earth. Additionally, "Baozhilin" is the first multifunctional environmental education park in Taiwan. The operational hours for public business and furniture sales are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The park is closed on Wednesdays, Sundays, and public holidays, but the environmental park area is open 24/7. The contact number is (04)24369702. The park features six major functions: 1. Furniture regeneration, inspection, and sales center; 2. Resource recycling art exhibition; 3. Resource recycling DIY classroom; 4. Environmental business promotion and environmental education visits; 5. Eco-park for leisurely recreation; 6. Second-hand goods exhibition and appliance repair services. Throughout the park, creative installations utilize recycled materials, complemented by lush green grass, a children’s play area, small ponds, and vibrant flower gardens, making it an ideal place for citizens to relax and discover treasures, purchasing regenerated furniture and experiencing the charm of Baozhilin. One might even find unexpected surprises. The service items include resource recycling and reutilization, as well as environmental education experience courses focusing on sustainable cycles and creative woodwork DIY projects. These courses offer rich content, welcoming families for leisure and treasure hunting while aiming to enhance understanding of environmentally sustainable materials and resource recycling, ultimately achieving waste reduction and sustainable resource goals. In response to environmental protection and resource sustainability, Baozhilin has established a Furniture Health Check Hospital, assisting citizens in repairing usable furniture to extend its life cycle, reduce waste, and ultimately lower carbon footprint. Appointments for the furniture health check service are accepted starting from 8:00 AM on the first working day of each month, subject to availability. In the furniture display and sales area, discarded furniture that has been repaired and transformed comes to life, with some items becoming instant favorites and quickly purchased. Bicycles collected by the cleaning team can also be refurbished and put back on the road, receiving positive feedback from the public. The Creative Exhibition Hall showcases creative woodworking and furniture made from discarded materials, transforming unusable items into various small creative works like business card holders, small stools, park benches, fences, mailboxes, and more. The True Collection Hall exhibits and sells traditional vintage furniture, mostly made from cypress, podocarpus, and rosewood. After careful restoration by the masters at Baozhilin, these solid wood pieces become highly sought after by the public. The Second-Hand Goods Exhibition Center has been piloted by the Taichung City Environmental Protection Bureau since October 2005, collecting second-hand items across five categories: toys, home decor, tableware, clothing, and books and magazines. These items are sorted by staff and then sold, inviting treasure hunters! The Appliance Repair Clinic accepts small electronics for repair, including fans, hairdryers, home ovens, rice cookers, water dispensers, desk lamps, juicers, electric kettles, electric heaters, dish dryers, and rapid boil kettles. Citizens can fill out basic information for diagnosis by repair technicians, receiving a phone call upon completion of repairs. A nominal fee of NT$50 is charged for this service. Baozhilin incorporates solar power and wind energy systems to demonstrate energy-saving and carbon-reduction efforts, utilizing these renewable energy sources for park lighting and LED lights. A rainwater collection system is also in place for irrigation of the park's plants.
