Taiwan Sun Cake Museum Introduction
The Taiwan Sun Cake Museum preserves the authentic flavors of the sun cake craft, inherited from Master Wei Ching-hai, the inventor of the sun cake, across three generations. It combines diverse elements such as cultural exhibitions, interactive audio-visual experiences, discussion forums, and light dining options, offering visitors a completely new experience. The showcase of sun cake molds (also known as cake stamps) represents the early models for making cakes and rice cakes. During seasonal festivals, families would make their own pastries containing auspicious and peaceful symbols to share with neighbors, spreading joy to others. The cake molds represent not just baking tools but also reflect the lifestyle and culinary culture of early people. We welcome you to Chuan An Tang, where you can glimpse the living traces of our ancestors through cake molds. Chuan An Tang Sun Cake is a fine craftsmanship directly passed down from the inventor of the sun cake, Master Wei Ching-hai (Ah Ming), and after three generations of evolution, it not only retains the traditional authentic taste but also boasts refined techniques. The architecture of the Taiwan Sun Cake Museum is located in "Chuan An Tang," a well-preserved century-old building that has stood since the Japanese occupation period, still exuding its charm. Originally, Chuan An Tang was used as a pharmacy, selling imported medicines and daily necessities. Today, through the efforts of a professional design team, the old building has been revitalized, cleverly integrating the characteristics of Taichung's traditional industries, creating a remarkable blend of historical pastry culture and a century-old heritage. The light dining area in the old space is located on the 2nd floor of the casual dining restaurant, featuring an autumn green theme paired with natural wood materials, providing a comfortable and relaxing dining environment. The menu primarily offers light meals, whether it’s a healthy and fresh chicken salad or authentic Indian curry, you can enjoy delicious dishes here that will leave you raving! The old space of the Sun Cake Museum was built in 1909 and is a precious historical monument that has withstood a century. In this old architectural space, we hope to develop more diverse applications to give it new value. Therefore, we have planned cultural and artistic performance activities to combine art with life, allowing innovative artists a platform to showcase their performances. We welcome your exhibition applications and visitations.
