The Taiwan Sun Cake Museum is housed in the "Quan'an Tang," a well-preserved century-old building that has stood since the Japanese colonial period, maintaining its charm to this day. In its early days, Quan'an Tang was used as a pharmacy, selling imported medicines and daily necessities; now, after a redesign by a professional team, the historic building has been rejuvenated and cleverly integrates the characteristics of local traditional industries in Taichung, creating a stunning fusion of rich pastry culture and a century-old heritage site.

Taiwan Sun Cake Museum Introduction

The Taiwan Sun Cake Museum carries the authentic flavors passed down through three generations of Master Wei Ching-Hai, the inventor of the sun cake. Integrating art exhibitions, interactive audio-visual displays, discussion forums, and light dining, it offers visitors a completely new experience. The sun cake artifacts exhibit rice cake molds (also known as cake stamps), which were early models used in making cakes and pastries. During festive seasons, families would make cakes symbolizing auspiciousness and peace to share with neighbors, spreading joy and good fortune. The rice cake molds represent not just baking tools but also reflect early people's lifestyles and culinary culture. We welcome you to Chuan An Tang to explore the traces of our ancestors' lives through the rice cake molds. The sun cakes from Chuan An Tang are crafted from the direct lineage of Master Wei Ching-Hai (A-Ming), preserving traditional, authentic flavors while further honing their techniques across three generations. The site of the Taiwan Sun Cake Museum is the "Chuan An Tang," a well-preserved century-old building that has stood since the Japanese occupation, still retaining its elegance. Originally, Chuan An Tang served as a pharmacy selling imported medicines and daily necessities; today, a professional design team has revitalized the old building, harmoniously blending the local traditional industry characteristics of Taichung, igniting an inspiring spark between the historical pastry culture and the century-old heritage. The light dining area is located on the 2nd floor of the old space, with an Akebono Green theme paired with natural wood materials, creating a comfortable and relaxing dining environment. The restaurant mainly offers light meals, where you can taste delicious dishes, whether a healthy fresh chicken salad or authentic Indian curry, sure to tantalize your taste buds! The sun cake museum was established in 1909, a precious historical monument over a century old. Within the old building, we hope to develop more diverse applications to give it new value, thus adding cultural and artistic events that combine art with daily life and provide space for emerging artists to showcase their performances. We welcome your exhibition applications and visits.
