Chungking Street Shopping District Introduction
Jiguang Street is a commercial street that played a significant role in the early development of Taichung City. During the Japanese occupation, this area was known as "Rong Town." Before the end of World War II, it was predominantly populated with businesses such as fabric shops, restaurants, watch shops, and general stores, making it one of the busiest streets in Taichung. Jiguang Street was originally one of the themed commercial streets in the central business district of Taichung and is characterized by its proximity to the adjacent commercial areas including Luchuan West Street, Taiwan Boulevard, and Freeway Road. The Jiguang pedestrian zone transformation plan has been completed, aiming to connect Jiguang Street with surrounding landmarks such as the train station, Zhongshan Park, Electronic Street, and Luchuan East and West Streets, while continuing the fresh urban design. This initiative seeks to improve the current traffic congestion, chaotic street conditions, and integrate the arcade with shops to enhance commercial activities, attract crowds, and promote business development on Jiguang Street. Jiguang Street is remembered as a once-thriving shopping district and a nostalgic place for older generations of Taichung residents. With the passage of time, it has evolved into a diverse commercial area that showcases vibrant business activity. Additionally, it is well-known for its food offerings, allowing visitors to savor a variety of delicious dishes and enjoy a fulfilling dining and entertainment experience.
