Cheng Guang Street Shopping District Introduction
Jiguang Street is a commercial street that belongs to the early development of Taichung City. This area was known as "Hōmachi" during the Japanese colonial period. Before Taiwan's retrocession, it mainly featured livelihood businesses such as fabric stores, restaurants, watch shops, and grocery stores; it was one of the busiest streets in Taichung City from the Japanese occupation to the early post-war period. Jiguang Street in Taichung City was originally one of the thematic commercial streets in the Central District, formed by Jiguang Street, Lùchuān West Street, Taiwan Boulevard, and the neighboring Ziyou Road shopping area. The Jiguang pedestrian zone project has been completed, aiming to connect the surrounding train station, Zhongshan Park, Electronics Street, and Lùchuān East-West Street, while continuing the new streetscape. To address issues of congestion and complex street structures, overall environmental optimization and block integration have been implemented to enhance shopping comfort and commercial attraction. Jiguang Street was the most prosperous shopping district at that time and is a memory for the older generation of Taichung residents; as time has evolved, it has transformed into a diversified business area that showcases the vibrant vitality of the commercial zone. Another highlight is the food, offering different flavors and satisfying your taste buds all at once, making this a place where you can enjoy eating, drinking, and entertainment.
