Chengguang Street Business District Introduction
Jiguang Street is a commercial street that was part of Taichung City's early development. This area was known as "Rong Town" during the Japanese colonial period. Before Taiwan's retrocession, it mainly featured essential businesses such as fabric stores, food shops, watch stores, and grocery stores. From the Japanese occupation to the early post-war period, it was one of the busiest streets in Taichung City. Jiguang Street was originally one of the thematic commercial streets in Taichung City’s Central District, formed by Jiguang Street, Lǜchuān West Street, Taiwan Boulevard, and the adjacent Ziyou Road commercial area. The Jiguang Pedestrian Zone project has been completed, with the main goal of connecting the surrounding area, including the train station, Zhongshan Park, Electronic Street, and Lǜchuān East-West Street, continuing the fresh streetscape. To address issues of congestion and complex street structures in certain areas, overall environmental optimization and street block integration have been implemented to enhance shopping comfort and commercial appeal. Jiguang Street is the most prosperous business district of its time and holds many memories for the older generation of Taichung residents. As times have changed, it has evolved into a diversified commercial area, showcasing vibrant commercial vitality. Another highlight is the food scene, where you can savor various delicious dishes, satisfying your taste buds all at once. A visit here will definitely assure you a great time filled with eating, drinking, and entertainment.
