Liuchuan is one of the four important rivers in the center of Taichung City. After rehabilitation, it has become the city's first landscape riverbank developed with sustainable ecological engineering methods. The scenery is pleasant during the day and dazzling at night, making it a new popular attraction in Taichung. It is not only a great place for Instagram photo opportunities but also a river that "breathes," balancing aesthetics with water storage and irrigation functions.

Liuchuan Riverside Walkway Introduction

During the day, Liuchuan presents a leisurely atmosphere, with clear water allowing for close-up views of the koi fish, making it a great spot for family outings and nature walks. In the evening, Liuchuan is filled with a romantic ambiance; walking under the dazzling lights and watching the shimmering willows and art installations of swans not only provides a perfect backdrop for night photography but also creates an ideal setting for couples to take an evening stroll. Liuchuan is a river that seems to breathe; the expansion of the banks has been transformed into gentle slopes, which helps with drainage and permeability. Through infiltration and evaporation, it mitigates the impact of heavy rainfall runoff on the drainage system. Below the riverbanks, water-absorbing structures have been installed to collect moisture for irrigation. Permeable drainage pipes (HDPE pipes) are also set up below the riverbed to regulate water sources between dry and wet periods, creating a flexible space that absorbs water like a sponge. To ensure water quality and ecology, the water source of Liuchuan is treated at the Chung-Hua Water Quality Purification Plant after intercepting upstream sewage, leading to significant improvements from severe pollution to mild pollution. Along the banks, 37 trees were transplanted and 38 willows were newly planted to preserve the character of Liuchuan, along with a total of 159 native Taiwan tree species, including tassel trees, Taiwan’s incense trees, and wax trees, ensuring that the river has different scenery throughout the four seasons.
