Taichung Second Market Introduction
The Second Market (officially Taichung City Public Second Retail Market) is located at the intersection of Sanmin Road and Section 1 of Taiwan Boulevard in the Central District of Taichung City. Covering an area of 2,388 ping, it features a three-winged radial architectural design with a hexagonal main building at its core. The market includes 54 shops and approximately 300 stalls selling various goods. Originally known as the New富Town Market during the Japanese colonial period, it primarily sold exquisite, high-priced items and was referred to as the "Japanese market." The market underwent comprehensive renovations by the Taichung City Government and has retained its historical significance for over a century. The Second Market was an important gathering place for daily necessities in early Taichung, offering a diverse array of products. Vendors are categorized by location, resulting in a hexagonal radial passageway, earning it the nickname "Six Roads." The market is home to many renowned local delicacies, such as Shanhe Braised Pork Rice, Lao Lai Red Tea, Lao Wang Cai Tou Cake, Zou Ji Scallion Pancakes, Li Hai Lu Rou Fan, Mao Chuan Meatballs, Yan Ji Meat Buns, and Fuzhou Noodles, which are cherished by locals and sought after by visitors.
