Second Market Introduction
Second Market (officially Taichung City Public Second Retail Market) is located at the intersection of Sanmin Road and Section 1 of Taiwan Boulevard in Taichung City. It covers an area of 2,388 ping and features a three-wing radiating architectural style, with a hexagonal main building at its center. The market has 54 shops and about 300 stalls selling various goods. Originally known as the Shinfu Town Market during the Japanese colonial period, it mainly sold exquisite and high-priced items, earning the nickname "the market for Japanese people." After a complete renovation by the Taichung City Government, it has taken on its current appearance and has a history of over a hundred years. Second Market was an essential gathering place for daily necessities in early Taichung, leading to a diverse range of products sold. Vendors are categorized in specific zones, resulting in the market's pathways forming a hexagonal radiating shape, which is why it is also known as "Liutiao Street." Within the Second Market, many renowned delicious snacks can be found, such as Shanhe Braised Pork Rice, Lao Lai Red Tea, Lao Wang Turnip Cake, Zou Ji Scallion Pancakes, Li Hai Lu Rou Rice, Mao Chuan Meatballs, Yan Ji Meat Buns, and Fuzhou Noodle. These are unforgettable local delicacies and popular dishes that attract many visitors.
